About three and a half years ago, my now husband and I were about four
weeks away from getting married. We were living in a condo in Atlanta.
One afternoon, we were doing laundry when I noticed that the washing
machine had stopped. I went to check and the lid was up. I figured that
my husband, who alwyas added things to a load after it started had simply
forgotten to put the lid down. When I questioned him, he said he thought
he had but couldn't really remember. We didn't think anymore about it
until it happened again about a week or so later. I thought that perhaps
the load was unbalanced and the machine simply stopped automatically. So
I checked the manual -- no mention. I also called the manufacturer who
told me that my model didn't have that option.

Well, I still didn't think very much about it until the day before we
were to leave to drive to D.C. where we were going to be married. I was
home by myself and did a quick load of laundry. I was standing in my
kitchen where I had a very clear view of the machine. All of the sudden
th machine stopped. I looked and saw the lid open. Believe me, I got
chills running up and down my back.

I walked to the machine and said in a somewhat calm voice, "I'm sorry
that I am doing a mixed load -- I know it isn't the correct way to do
laundry but... I'll try not to do it in the future." I closed the
machine and finished the load I was doing. I figured that it was my
mother who had died 20 odd years ago, making sure that everything went
smoothly. During the next year that we lived there, we never again had
trouble with the washer.

Anyone else have any similar experience before a major occaison?
