This document is just a short list of the basics you'll need to know. I will use EZRPG to load the RPG WADs in this document, but you can load RPG WADs without running EZRPG by typing in: Hexen -file RPGBASE.WAD {wad1}.WAD {wad2}.WAD ... First off, in order to create your charector, you need to type in: EZRPG RPGCREAT Start a new game, selecting the skill level and charector class of your choice, and then play through the level. TIP: In order to get through the bars, you need to use the weapon-symbol-thingy you picked up earlier. Considering you just need to push spacebar, I would have thought this to be obvious, but then again... When you are done, and you are teleported to another level, wait for it to finish and open all of the portholes, and then save your game. Exit. Somehow obtain an RPG WAD. For the purpose of example, lets pretend that you found an RPG WAD named R_CLOCK.WAD. Type in: EZRPG R_CLOCK Restore the game you saved earlier, and walk through the porthole. Viola! Instant RPG. Game play should be fairly easy to understand, but you need to think "creatively". If there is something barring you path, try "pushing" it out the way. Just because something doesn't work the first time doesn't mean you should give up! If you see a monster, and it doesn't attack you, assume its friendly and start talking to it by walking up to it and pressing spacebar. When you finish the RPG WAD, you will return to the same level you were in earlier (the one you were at when you saved a while back), and some advancement may be done. If you have earned enough "experience", then you will move on to the next level, and become more skilled, more adept at magic, etc. I decided that, instead of going into great detail here, read the outdated RSD.TXT file. Although some of the details have been changed, a LARGE amount of the hard-core truths (except for the plotline) haven't. Also, while other WAD authors are writing RPG WADs, try taking a glance at the outdated RPGOLD.WAD by typing in: Hexen -file RPGOLD.WAD Although it is old, it does demonstrate the use of experience, gold, quests, NPCs, and sleeping-in-for-the-night. Also understand that although some RPG WADs may be written in the same style, several may be more complex and involving. IMPORTANT NOTICE!!!! I am pretty sure that, having looked through it, the original draft (dubbed v0.8) of the Hexen RPG specs contains player docs (all of chapter 2.0) that are 100% CONSISTANT WITH v0.9 DOCS! Because I was too short on time to rewrite these, I figured that it would be a waste to throw aways documentation that was still useful. I included the rest of the document just for the heck of it, but considering most of it is inaccurate, I'd seriously reccomend that you don't use it.
