486CACHE.COM Disable and enable the internal cache This program allow you to turn the 80486's (and above) internal cache on and off. Usually your cache should be left enabled, but some software may not work with caching enabled. In particular, Sierra and Dynamix games will not work correctly with the CMS Sound Blaster if caching is enabled. Also, you can disable the cache to slow down programs that run too fast on a 486. Origin's Wing Commander is a good candidate for this, especially if you have a fast video board. Comments: Michael Spertus: I disable the cache for both reasons with Dynamix's Stellar7. My 486 runs about as fast as a 386 when I disable the internal cache. If I disable the external cache as well (Do this in your BIOS setup), my 486 runs about as fast as a 286. Adriano Cunha: I disable the cache for some old 286 programs, that runs too fast in my PC. My Cyrix 5x86, with the internal cache disabled, runs about as fast as a 286 with 27MHz clock (Landmark speed test). ================================================================================ Usage: The program have the following syntax: 486CACHE /E[nabled] /D[isabled] /H[elp] the option /E enables the internal cache the option /D disables the internal cache the option /H gives you the program syntax Note: calling an option twice have no effect Warning: If you do not have an 80486 or an 5x86, I don't know what will happen if you run this, but it probably won't be good. ================================================================================ The program 486CACHE, programed by A&L Software, is the result of the original programs ICE.EXE and ICD.EXE by Michael Spertus, that do exactly the same as 486CACHE.COM. ================================================================================ This program is freeware, distribute as you like.
