SuperDIR 95 is a complete replacement for the MS-DOS "DIR" command with long filename support under Windows 95. It has all the features of DOS's "DIR" command plus a huge array of other useful features. Moreover, it still remains extremely easy to use. SuperDIR is released for distribution as Shareware. You can evaluate SuperDIR for 30 days. If you wish to continue using SuperDIR beyond this evaluation period you must register. The cost of registering is a mere AUS$19.95 (approx. US$15.00) for a single licence. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Why use SuperDIR 95? There are many of us who still prefer to use the command line to accomplish many day-to-day file management tasks. The file management facilities in operating systems such as Microsoft Windows 95 are often too slow and cumbersome. The most common command issued at the command line is the familiar DIR command. There have been many DIR replacements in the past which display files in different colours according to their file extensions. However, with the inclusion of long filenames in Microsoft Windows 95, our favourite DIR replacement utilities are no longer functional. Super DIR 95 was the first DIR replacement utility to implement the new long filename system and still remains the only DIR replacement utility to correctly implement all features of this new file system (known as VFAT). --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. SuperDIR 95 Features * Complete Windows 95 and MS-DOS 7.0/7.1 compatibility, including - Long filename (VFAT) support - Extended wildcard specifications - Full network support, including UNC specifications (eg. \\COMPUTER_NAME\SHARED_DEVICE) - Ability to display last access time, creation time or last write time for files * Display filenames in different colours based on their file extensions (user customisable) * Fully user customisable display formats * Support for 4DOS/NDOS filename descriptions (automatic detection) * Automatically maximizes the number of columns displayed based on the current display format and the length of the filenames being displayed * Ability to display only those files that have a specified attribute * Directory tree feature * Sort files based on various criteria in either a horizontal or vertical direction * Proprietary "TurboScroll" algorithm for incredibly fast scrolling * Ability to handle thousands of files in a single directory ... plus much, much, much more. Use the /? command line switch to see a full list of SuperDIR 95 features. Use the /SET command line switch to alter the default settings (interactive mode). --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Installation Copy SDIR.EXE to your DOS directory (usually C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND or C:\DOS) or another suitable directory and then simply type "SDIR" instead of "DIR". You may also like to rename SDIR.EXE to D.EXE and then type "D" instead of "DIR". Make sure that this directory is contained in your path. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. De-installation Simply erase SDIR.EXE and SUPDIR.CFG from the directory you installed it to. SuperDIR 95 does not modify your AUTOEXEC.BAT, CONFIG.SYS, WIN.INI, SYSTEM.INI, system registry or any other files. It is entirely self contained. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6.
