-----------Instructions for Installation: --------------------- NOVEMBER 10, 1996 NEW program name is Element.ary! for OS/2! (Old name was PM-Weather, too many other companies were using this name.) Make a directory for Element.ary on you hard disk. Copy contents of diskette to your PMWEATHER subdirectory and UNZIP pmwt170b.zip (Overwrite the old files so it will updated all code to latest version.) Execute the INSTALL.CMD command (Unless using 4OS2) 4OS2 Users may need to create a special batch file like this: WEATHER.CMD d: cd \grp-chat cd weather cmd.exe /c detach pmweathr.exe ------------- Release 1.70b BETA release notes... 11/11/96 ------- New printing system works much better. Support for subscription weather service www.amerwxcncpt.com Speach enabled, BackTalk 1.1 ready. MPEG player included for playing weather movies. Auto-update your desktop with the latest weather imagery. Proxy server support. EMAIL the author even over a firewall ------------- Release 1.5b 10/18/96 notes...------ Added lots of Canadian forecast choices. Added some, more to come, Australian Forecast choices. Email to Author from the HELP Menu, should work even over a firewall. Upon start up it loads a notice from my WEB page for latest information and changes in the product. (May also cause an error if started before you are connected to the internet.) Proxy Configuration screen, requires most all fields be filled in. ------------- Release 1.33 7/28/96 notes...------ Added text forecast pointers for Hurricane information. Added National images to the Image viewer. (Still US only, sorry.) Many of you may have noticed that PMWeather was broken near end of July, 1996. It was having problems downloading images from the internet. This was caused by a change at the internet site providing the images. This problem should be resolved for now...I am making PMWeather as intelligent as possible, hopefully the methods I am using will keep the future changes to a minimum. The alternate weather image provider mentioned in the 1.32 notes has been reliable during my testing. This is still not implemented into PMWEATHER yet. Merlin Beta has trouble updating the desktop background. It doesn't know when I change the contents of the file. Image viewer still works fine, I hope the GA version of Merlin will not have this problem with the desktop background. PM-WEATHER is NOT certified to run on Object Rexx(OREXX) in the Merlin Beta. If OREXX ships in the GA version of Merlin I will work on it then. David ---------- End 1.33 Notes ------- Release 1.32 6/5/96 notes... The internet is changing quickly! Version 1.31 broke due to a WWW site change where PMWeather was getting it's images. Version 1.32 fixed the problem for now. Also, please note: The site providing the text forecast is warning that it may soon close to the public. Free weather information is getting harder to find, so... I am pursuing subscription service providers as a source for weather information. To use this kind of service you will be required to subscribe with the information provider before this function will work. (One provider I checked on is only $5.00/mth and will be able to provide 15 minute NEXRAD updates.) Also, I will be adding support for personal links you find on the internet. If your local TV WeatherMan has a Web page with current weather maps, these changes will allow you to setup PMWEATHER to list these maps. Think of it like setting up quick-links in a Web Browser. Thanks for your patience as PM-Weather evolves, David ---------- End 1.32 Notes ------- Version 1.31 Notes 3/19/96 -------------- 1. Focus change from text viewer to Image viewer is fixed. 2. Multiple Image Viewer windows are allowed. 3. Save Image to File is available, click mouse button 2 on the image you wish to save. 4. LOGO screen will automatically dismiss itself in registered version. 5. Help file can be viewed from the Menu. 6. Weather Robot included for automatic text forecast download to file. Handles many cities at once, each to it's own filename. 7. Updated INSTALL.CMD to add ICON for WEATHER Robot. (No new cities or countries in this version.) WARNING: Option settings affect all Image Viewers at once, be careful about running multiple viewers that update the desktop. Results are unpredictable when two image sessions attempt to change the desktop background at the same time.
