Docs written by Sarah Pearson. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- DOING will only work on ProBoard Version 2.1x. DOING will allow the User or Sysop to see what a User on any other Nodes is actually doing whilst online. ProBoard only displays a few basic "What is this node doing" type messages when using MenuFunction 50 and 53. DOING will allow you to setup your Menu's to display a much more detailed description of what the User is actually doing. DOING checks the status of each Node every 3 seconds (by default) and displays an update. You can change the time between updates. DOING displays and works the same in ASCII (TTY) as it does in ANSI, AVATAR or AVT+. If you want to remove the Fe-line Software copyright header, then run DOING with the /NH paramerter. Within this archive comes a Windows 3.1x/Windows 95 program that allows you to view who is online and what they are doing, without having the Node window(s) open. Installation ------------ As of version 1.13 of DOING, the use of FeSetup is required. FeSetup is a DOS EXE that will automate the installation/upgrading of DOING and all future PEXs from Fe-line Software. You should be able to download the latest version of FeSetup from the same place that you downloaded this archive from. Please make sure that you have the latest version of FeSetup, which at this time is version 1.01. The filename is FESET101.??? (RAR, ZIP or ARJ). Type : FESETUP DOING FeSetup will now run. Please follow the onscreen prompts and help. Installation is relatively quick and very simple If you have any problems with the installation, please make sure you have followed all the installation questions properly. If there appears to be an error in FeSetup, please can you send us a message and tell us what the problem is and what PEX .PKG file you were trying to install. The DOING.A?? files included with this archive are just samples and only fit 3 Nodes. You can use your own .A?? files as long as you use the following % codes to display the Node Info. You can display as many Node Info lines as you wish, your only limitation is screen size. %# Node Number %N Name of Person online %C City of the Person online %D What they are Doing %B Baud Rate of Person online If you put . in between the % and the letter then you can specify the length of the field. eg, %................N will display the Name field at a maximum length of 20 characters. The % and N are included in the length, hence only 18 .'s. If the DOING.A?? files are not located, then DOING will use a hardcoded screen display. See the .A?? files for an example of how these codes are implemented. DOING now has OS/2 Doing Support included. If you wish to have this support, insert the following into your AUTOEXEC.BAT file : SET OS2DOING=YES Only the first 12 characters of the DOING description can be shown in the Window Title. This can be upto 30 characters in length. [MenuFunction Number] is the ProBoard Menu Function you would like to perform. [optional] [Data] is the Data Parameters for the MenuFunction Number. [optional] Examples: Our example user is called Peter Pan and he is in the menu defined in "MESSAGE.PBM". 1) Set the DOING Descriptive Text to the current Menu Name. There are two ways of doing this. a) DOING MENU - This will display "Peter Pan in MESSAGE Menu" (MESSAGE is the .PBM filename as seen in ProCfg) or b) DOING "is in the Message Menu" - This will display "Peter Pan is in the Message Menu". 2) Set the DOING Descriptive Text to the selected Menu Option and then perform that Menu Option. We recommend you use method 1 above. 3) Displaying the current DOING info for the Nodes and update this info every 4 seconds. There is only one way of doing this. DOING ? 4 This will display the DOING.A?? file to the User and update every 4 seconds. The minimum update is 3 seconds If you don't want the Fe-line Software Copyright header displayed, then simply add /NH to the Data line. DOING ? /NH You should hopefully be able to get the idea of how DOING works from the above 3 examples. DOING is FreeWare. No registration fee is required for you to use this PEX.
