CONTENTS: Summary Installation Configuring OfficeView Removing OfficeView Software Support --------------------------------- Summary OfficeView for Windows is a program that makes it possible to know the comings and goings of employees at the glance of a screen. Your receptionist can give rapid, well-informed responses to clients and phone calls. Messages can be passed between users, too. Easy to use and install, this tool can improve the efficiency of your office and help you give a proficient, well-organized service to your clients. Requires: Windows 3.1 or higher, color display and file sharing by a file server or peer to peer. Developer: Len Phillips --------------------------------- Installation OfficeView includes a Setup program to make installation easy. The Setup program can be used to install OfficeView on a common network directory and individual workstations. The program runs on Windows 3.1, Windows for Workgroups (WFW) 3.11 or Windows 95. If more than one workstation will be using the program, then a single copy of the program must be installed on a shared directory. This directory can be located on a fileserver or shared on a peer-to-peer LAN, such as Microsoft Workgroup Network or Lantastic. To install OfficeView, double click on the setup.exe program to create a program manager group or, in the case of Windows 95, to create a folder in the Start button's Programs menu. For each additional workstation installation, run the setup program from the common network directory. --------------------------------- Configuring OfficeView OfficeView has a security system (password) to control access to use the following commands: Add Name, Remove Name, My Name, Change Password, Add New Group, Rename Group and Delete Group and to control access to make changes to the Additional Information screens for all employees. To allow access to make these changes, the Administrator(s) need only click on File/Admin Mode and enter a password. To return to the normal mode of operation, click on File/User Mode. To populate the board with user names, switch to Admin mode by clicking on File/Admin Mode. Enter the password (initially="abc"). To enter each name, type Ctrl-N and the name. You can enter the information into the Additional Information screen for each name by clicking on their name and selecting Information. Employees may prefer to enter this information for themselves after you identify their name at their own workstation. The program must identify names with workstations so that users can read their messages and make changes to the Additional Information screen at their workstations. To do this, at the workstation, after a new name is added, click on the name to be associated with that workstation and select My Name from the pop-up menu. The name will appear in the top title bar. Messages can only be read at workstations with the corresponding name in the title bar. This procedure need never be repeated, unless a new user operates at that computer. To change the admin password (initially="abc"), click on File/Change Password and enter the current password once, and the new password twice. The program will confirm that a new password has been accepted. Passwords must consist of letters only. --------------------------------- Removing OfficeView The following explains how to completely remove the main copy of OfficeView (do all four steps) and the LAN Workstations copies (do the first two steps only): Delete: 1) OfficeView group and OfficeView icon from the Program Manager. 2) OVlocal.ini from the main windows directory (usually c:\windows). 3) all files in the OfficeView directory ( default directory c:\OView ). 4) OfficeView directory. --------------------------------- Software Support A software support page is available on our web site at http://www.capitalnet.com/~phillips.
