1¾«¯5;;;;;< HEREWEAP.WAD v.9a beta * This is a weapons conversion PWAD for HERETIC v1.2. The batch file MAKEALL.BAT will sniff out whatever you have and install the right stuff (I hope!). MAKEBACK.BAT will restore HERETIC and set up the game for WEAPON HERETIC play again later. Hopefully, this will work with Heretic v1.0 & 1.1. * My 2nd successful conversion, it uses WEAPONH.WAD as a base for some sound, music, & graphic changes; mainly to the weapons. Icons for the various weapons (and ammo) are changed, and the over-the-sight view is changed. *You should have the following files (plus maybe some others): DeuSF.exe (to append Heretics' sprites to Weaponh.wad) Hereweap.txt (This is it!) HHE.exe (Heretic Hack Editor) HHE.ini (offsets for v1.2) Makeall.bat (actual conversion program) Makeback.bat (restores Heretics' .exe file) Wdauthor.txt (Duh!) Weaponh.deh (HHE exe Patch) Weaponh.wad (for Heretic) *You need: Heretic.wad Heretic.exe Setup.exe * This PWAD should be used with the batch file MAKEALL.BAT: C:\heretic (enter) makeall (enter) - to add all unaltered Heretic sprites to the PWAD. In the process, the musics and sounds referenced in WEAPONH.WAD are added. At the end of the install process, Heretic will launch itself. No permanent change is made to your IWAD. - To return to Weapons Heretic, type: C:\heretic (enter) heretic -file weaponh.wad (enter) - To restore the original configuration, run makeback.bat: C:\heretic (enter) makeback (enter) - This restores Heretic.exe and creates Herehack.exe, which can be used to re-launch the PWAD Weaponh.wad by typing: C:\heretic (enter) herehack -file weaponh.wad ** Should you receive an error message of any sort after SUCCESSFULLY modifying the game, just ignore it. It means an ERRORLEVEL other than 0 was returned, but installation was successful. Some of the .ini files which the batch file ignores generate these messages. If you get an error message (not a DeuSF warning; that's something different) DURING installation, look around. The file DEUSF.LOG was created during installation, and can tip you off what went wrong.You only need the HERETIC.EXE, HERETIC.WAD, and SETUP.EXE files in the directory for single player gaming. Thanks! ** BTW, should you desire to (semi-) permanently modify your IWAD, say to play other add-on PWADs with Weapon Heretic, use the command; DeuSF -merge Weaponh.wad (to modify your IWAD) to run: C:\heretic (enter) herehack (enter) and DeuSF -restor weaponh.wad (to restore both WADs) to get Heretic back. - A quick note on HHE by Greg Lewis - I have both versions 1.0 and 1.1 of HHE and neither will accept Heretic v1.2's .exe file, unless the offsets in the HHE.ini file are specified. Greg was kind enough to send me the offsets so that the v1.1 patch would work on Heretic v1.2. Thank you very much, Greg! - For a listing of the available DeuSF commands, type deusf -help at the prompt. Care should be taken when running other hacked graphics wads with a modified (merged) IWAD. See DeuSF documentation (can be found wherever WinTex/DeuTex are located). - If the install process "hangs" during installation, or if the HHE patch doesn't work, and you have Heretic v1.0 or 1.1, try deleting HHE.ini and run everything over again. (You should delete everything in the directory except hereweap.zip, heretic.exe, heretic.wad, setup.exe, and heretic.cfg first). Unzip hereweap.zip, delete HHE.ini, and try makeall again. .
