*********** IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS ************* READ THIS NOW TO COMPLETE INSTALLATION This is a demonstration version of the Seattle PictureBox Screen Saver. To get the complete 37 picture version, read the file ORDER.TXT and send $15 to Intellect Systems at P.O. Box 58213, Renton, WA 98058. This program may be freely distributed. To print this file, select the File Print command in Notepad. HOW TO START THE SCREENSAVER: Your screen saver program has been copied into the Windows(tm) Desktop of the Control Panel. However, it has not been activated. Activating your screen saver is easy, and requires three steps as follows: I. Load the Control Panel II. Run the Desktop option III. Select the screen saver (If you are installing to Windows 95, read this entire document) ========================================================= I. Load the Control Panel The Control Panel is generally found in the MAIN group of your Program Manager. Execute the Control Panel by double clicking the Control Panel icon. If you cannot find the MAIN group or the Control Panel icon, you can run the control panel from the File Manager by double clicking CONTROL.EXE in your main Windows directory (usually called WINDOWS). You can also run the control panel by pulling down the "File" menu item in the Program Manager and selecting the "Run" command. Enter CONTROL.EXE in the run dialog box. ========================================================= II. Run the Desktop option After you have started the control panel, you will see a series of icons. One of these icons will be labeled "Desktop". To run the Desktop option of the control panel, double click the Desktop icon in the Control Panel. ========================================================= III. Select the screen saver When you start the Desktop option of the control panel, a dialog box will appear. Look in the middle of the dialog box for the 'Screen Saver' options. Next to the "Name:" option, you will see a down arrow. Click on this arrow with your mouse to see the list of screen savers on your computer. Select the screen saver name from the list. You can also select from the list by using the down arrow key. If you want to see the PictureBox screen saver right away, you can press the "Test" button. Select the OK button to close the dialog box and your screen saver is now activated. INSTALLING TO WINDOWS 95: Under the Start menu, select "Settings" and then select "control panel". Click on the "display" icon. On the display dialog box, select the "screen saver" tab. Select the desired screen saver. Make sure that in the "settings" tab, that a 256 color mode has been selected. If the screen saver does not start, delete the screen saver and re-install the program. Exit and then restart Windows. The first picture may not display properly. SETTING YOUR PASSWORD AND SCREEN SAVER DELAY You can set the number of minutes before the screen saver activates by entering a number into the "Delay" option of the desktop dialog box. If you select the "Setup" button, you can select a password that must be used before the screen saver will stop and pass control back to your windows programs. This security feature will prevent other people from using your computer while your screen saver is activated. You can also set if the screen saver can be deactivated by moving the mouse. REMOVING THE PASSWORD SECURITY DIALOG BOX If you are using the password feature, a dialog box will appear if you press a key or move the mouse. The buttons will appear in different colors depending on the colors used in the pictures being displayed. If someone tries to use your computer while you are away, the dialog box will remain on the screen to inform you that someone has tried to use your computer. To remove the password screen, you need to press the key combination of ESCAPE TAB TAB SPACE. SETTING THE VIDEO MODE It is recommended that Windows be running in a 640 x 480 in 256 color mode. If the screen saver does not display the pictures in the proper colors, you will need to change the video mode by running the Windows setup program. You can do this in DOS by switching to your Windows directory and entering the command "SETUP" or you can click on the SETUP icon in the MAIN program group in Windows. In order to view the pictures as full screen, the video mode needs to be set to 640 x 480 in 256 color mode. If you do not see such a video mode listed, you will not be able to view the pictures properly. You can also use a higher resolution video mode, but your pictures will not fill the screen. Check with the manufacturer of your video card. If you would like to get other pictures, or would like create a custom screen saver for a business, school group, or even a wedding album, please contact Intellect Systems. CUSTOMIZING THE SCREEN SAVER If you would like to change the sequence of the pictures or the transition effects, please contact us about our personal screen saver builder. You can also use the images in this package with other popular screen savers like Microsoft Scenes and Second Nature screen saver products. Install the screen saver normally, then you can use the image files that end with a .JPG extension in the installation directory. Follow the directions that come with the other screen saver programs to add the .JPG images. USING THE IMAGES IN OTHER PROGRAMS You can use shareware programs such as Paint Shop Pro to convert the JPEG image files to a picture format that is compatible with your other applications. The .BMP format is common for Windows applications. Once you have created a .BMP file, you can edit it with Paintbrush and use the image as a wallpaper. You may use the images in this package for your own personal use. You may not distribute or use the images for any commercial (for sale) purpose. UNINSTALLING THE SCREEN SAVER If you wish to remove the screen saver from your hard disk, you will need to delete the contents of the screen saver directory You will also need to delete the files which end in 4 numbers like: SEAP3514.INI, SEAP3514.SCR, and PGX.INI from your C:\WINDOWS directory.
