README.TXT - TUNE!IT VERSION 2.00 ____________________________________________________________ INTRODUCTION ------------ TUNE!IT is a program designed to tune musical instruments by using a microphone or directly connecting your instrument (with a pickup) to the PC's soundcard. TUNE!IT automatically detects the pitch of the input signal and displays the corresponding note and its deviation from standard tuning. Optionally it can display the spectrum of the input signal, from which the instrument's harmonics can be identified. Other features include : - reference tone - ear training to improve your musical listening skills Version 2.00 is designed for Windows 95. If you have Window 3.1, you can use version 1.4 which has the same functionality with the following exceptions : - WAV file processing added to version 2.00 - Custom tuning omitted in version 2.00 HARDWARE / SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS -------------------------------- - Microsoft Windows 95 - IBM PC compatible 486 upwards - Windows compatible soundcard (e.g SOUNDBLASTER) - microphone or instrument lead PROGRAM FILES ------------- The TUNE!IT package consists of the following files : - README.TXT - TUNEIT.EXE , the executable program file - TUNEIT.HLP , the help file - TUNIT200.CFG , the configuration file INSTALL ------- No automatic install procedure is supplied with tunit200.zip in order to keep the file size to a minimum for downloads. To install TUNE!IT do the following : 1) Copy files TUNEIT.EXE, TUNEIT.HELP and TUNIT200.CFG to an appropriate subdirectory on your hard disk (e.g. c:\tunit200) 2) Set up TUNE!IT's icon by creating a shortcut for program tuneit.exe and copying the shortcut to the desktop or any favorite program folder 3) Verify installation by by double-clicking TUNE!IT's icon UNINSTALL --------- Just delete all files in TUNE!IT's install directory and remove directory and icon. TUNE!IT does not make any entries in Windows system directories or registry ! USING TUNE!IT ------------- Make sure your microphone or instrument lead is properly connected to the soundcard. Start up TUNE!IT by double clicking TUNE!IT's icon. The chromatic tuner with green note boxes at the bottom and an accuracy box at the top will be displayed. Play or sing a note and you should see the corresponding note box highlighted in red and it's accuracy displayed in percent in the accuracy box. Play a reference tone by clicking on any of the green note boxes. Click on the Spectrum button to view the spectrum of your input signal in real time. For a detailed description of TUNE!IT's modes and parameter settings refer to the online Help information. Note : If TUNE!IT does not respond to your input signals, check the following : - is the microphone level of your soundcard (usually adjustable in your mixer) set up high enough ? - if your input signal is very weak (e.g. acoustic guitar), adjust TUNE!IT's sensitivity (General Settings) to a lower DB value until you get a response . - can you record your signals with any other standard Windows Wave recording program (e.g. WaveEdit) ? If TUNE!IT shows readings from background noise, adjust TUNEITt's sensitivity to a higher dB value until the background noise is eliminated. Alternatively turn the microphone level down.
