ClipFile by A.S. Software Version 1.1 (23 December 1996) This is an update to the popular ClipFile shell extension, with two important changes. 1. It now works on Windows NT 4.0. There was a compatiblity problem in 1.0 that caused Explorer to crash when ClipFile was used. This is fixed. 2. The registration system has been changed so that you can register ClipFile against a user name as opposed to a Computer's ID. The original system was not very popular and proved to be unworkable in practice. All existing registered users will get free updates to their registration keys. ClipFile is copyright software. It may be distributed freely and the available features used without charge, provided all the files listed below are distributed together and not modified in any way. ClipFile.inf ClipFile.dll CFAdvDlg.dll CFAdvDlg.hlp CFAdvDlg.cnt File_id.diz Install.reg ReadMe.txt (this file) Access to all the features requires a registration code. Codes are issued by A. S. Software at $19 US per user. ClipFile can be registered on Compuserve. See the help-file for full details. Installing To install ClipFile, extract the distributed files to any directory (but not one that contains a long name in the path). Then use the right mouse button to display the popup menu for ClipFile.inf and select the install command. ClipFile will be installed. Windows NT only: you should be logged in as Administrator (or equivalent privilege) when you install ClipFile. If not the installation may fail. It is possible that the popup menu for ClipFile.inf may not display an install command. This will most likely be if you have (deliberately or accidentally) associated .inf files with a different command. If this is the case try double-clicking the file Install.reg; this will restore the original association for .inf files. If you still don’t get the install command on the popup menu, click the Start button, choose Run, and type the following command (you can save having to type it in full by copying and pasting it): On Windows 95: rundll setupx.dll,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 \clipfile.inf On Windows NT: rundll32 setupapi.dll,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 \clipfile.inf is the full path-name of the folder where you have put the ClipFile distribution files. More information For full details run the help file "CFAdvDlg.hlp". To get help when ClipFile is installed, right-click on any folder, select CopyPaths->Advanced, and click the help button in the "about" box or on the main dialog. Richard Jones, A. S.
