==================== To Do List v1.02 Readme.txt ==================== ==== Installation ==== Just unzip the files contained in todol102.zip into a temporary directory, run SETUP.EXE, install it, and when you are finished, delete the temporary directory. All important files that were in that temporary directory are now located in your installed directory. ==== Introduction ==== Everyone always has stuff that's got to get done, or things that they'd like to do, but keeping track of it all is sometimes hard. To Do List is a simple application that allows you to list your items to do, and then check them off as you complete them. ==== Features ==== Real features: - Ability to save and load To Do Lists (.tdl) - Easy and fun way to keep track of items to do, rather than forming lots of yellow sticky notes - Extremely small program size, no registry entries to slow down your system Corny features: - 32 bit application - Full Windows95 look and feel - Support for long file names - Full Windows95 install/uninstall (completely removes it) Known Issues: - None! All known bugs from 1.01 were fixed with 1.02. ==== Operation ==== To Do List is extremely easy to operate, simply type click on the box you want to enter an item to do on, turning it yellow, and then type your item. It will be reflected in the large text box at the top of the program, allowing you to type items larger than the length of the individual boxes horizontally. To review your items to do that are larger than the individual boxes, simply click on their box and it will be revealed in the large box at top. If you need another slot for another To Do entry, simply click the Add New Entry button. To delete an entry, simply select it *FIRST* by clicking on its box, making it yellow, and then click the Delete Entry. Load List and Save List are similarly simple, but if you try to Load List when you already have entries in the slots, To Do List will ask you if you are sure you want to load a new list over the one you currently have, because loading a new list will destroy your currently displayed list (unless you have it saved on a file). Note that To Do List comes with an [interesting] sample To Do List file, sample.tdl. Check it out. ==== Runtime files required ==== To Do List v1.02 was created using Microsoft Visual Basic 4.0 Standard Edition (http://www.microsoft.com/vbasic/). Hence, it needs the Visual Basic 4.0 32-bit Runtime files to operate. If the program runs though, you need not read the rest of the RunTime files section. If the program gives you a error upon startup, you need to get the VB4 Runtime files. The main file you need is VB40032.DLL. This is similar to VBRUN300.DLL which was needed for programs created with MS Visual Basic 3.0 for Windows 3.1. You can download the Visual Basic Runtime files from any good software site, including: WinSite, http://www.winsite.com/cgi-bin/dload/81/win95/sysutil/vb40runt.zip (1.0mb) ZDNET Software Library http://search2.zdnet.com/plweb-cgi/swlib/download.pl?vbr432.zip?00002U?utilities?system_utilities (I know the above URL is strange, but it will download the file, trust me. Plus it's smaller than the WinSite download.) (789k) If you already have these files, you dont need to get it again and doing so would only be wasting your time since it is nearly 1MB large. If you do have this file, it will be located in /SYSTEM. ==== Conclusion ==== To Do List is FREEWare for all, donations accepted but certainly not expected. I realize this is not the killer app of the Windows world but I do hope at least a few folks find it of use. If you are one of them, please take the time to email me with your comments and suggestions, and for that matter, even if you don't like the program, drop me an email as well! I enjoy mail and will respond promptly to all messages I get. ==== About the Author ==== Josh Straub email: tookycat@nconnect.net occupation: Webmaster, independent programmer homepage: The DeathMatch Center, at http://www.nconnect.net/~tookycat/ The DeathMatch Center is a site on Doom/Doom2, Quake, and other popular 3D Action games. My personal page is on there as well, with more info on me than I wish to disclose in this document. Double click the included URL file in this download package. ==== History ==== 1.00 - Prerelease, had a delete entry error 1.01 - Fixed the Delete Entry error just prior to mass uploading. 1.02 - I had a lot of email about this. What happened was that i had beta controls on my computer, and when I distributed todol101.zip, it contained a beta version of comdlg32.ocx. This would not install on peoples machines since it was a beta, but it worked great on mine because I already had it installed, so I couldnt know that it wouldnt work on other peoples systems. But it is now fixed, and I also added, per user request: - Ability to create a New List - Ability to Save As or just Save - Now saves the checked/unchecked information with each item! ==== Legal Stuff ==== To Do List "The Software" is copyrighted software owned by Josh Straub.
