While very little information was made available at press time, the offer made was aproximately $10 Billion. ITT and Caesars declined any comment at this time. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- SUN INTERNATIONAL COMPLETES MERGER WITH GRIFFIN GAMING & ENTERTAINMENT Ocean-Themed Mega-Resort Will Feature East Coast's Largest Marine Aquarium by Robert Taylor, Casino.sho Editor ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Atlantic City, NJ --- Sun International Hotels Limited has announced that it has completed its merger with Griffin Gaming & Entertainment, Inc. Griffin Gaming has become a subsidiary of Sun International, and Merv Griffin's Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey is part of the deal. Sun International Hotels Limited is an international resort and gaming company which develops and manages premier resort and casino properties. Sun currently operates resort hotels and casinos in Connecticut, The Bahamas, Indian Ocean, France, and now also in New Jersey. In addition to the $200 million acquisition, the company has announced plans for $500 million in improvements to the Atlantic City property. Sol Kerzner, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sun International, said that "Resorts will be transformed into an ocean themed mega-resort based on the theme of the Lost Continent of Atlantis. The marine features and aquariums will be the largest on the East Coast of the US, or almost twice the size of the National Aquarium in Baltimore. One of the features will include the world's largest indoor living tidal coral reef." This development includes a renovation of the existing Resorts Hotel as well as new development on adjacent real estate. Approximately 1,400 new hotel rooms will bring the total complex to 2,000 rooms. The new highly themed casino floor will encompass approximately 100,000 square feet. The actual construction is scheduled to commence later this year and should be concluded by Winter 1999. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- HILTON HOTELS WINS NJ APPROVAL $3 BILLION PURCHASE OF BALLY'S GRAND & PARK PLACE IN ATLANTIC CITY By Robert Taylor, Editor Atlantic City, NJ --- Hilton Hotels Corporation casino license was approved by the New Jersey Casino Control Commission. This opens the door for Hilton Hotels to run a casino operation in Atlantic City. Hilton plans on completing the $3 billion purchase of Bally Entertainment Corporation's two Atlantic City casinos, Park Place and The Grand. Bally's Chairman Arthur Goldberg will become head of Hilton's gaming operations and Wallace Barr will continue as President of the two Atlantic City properties and two Bally riverboat casinos in Louisiana and Mississippi, as well as Hilton's Kansas City riverboat operation.
