Nortech Software, Inc. Announces Revolutionary Database Development Environment for Delphi FT. LAUDERDALE, December 6---Nortech Software, Inc. announced today the availability of a comprehensive database development environment and toolkit for Delphi.(tm) The product, called the Ariel(tm) Database Development Environment (ADE), allows multiple database engines and data access technologies to be supported and to co-exist in a Delphi application. Ariel completely liberates Delphi from its dependence on the BDE and Borland's IDAPI technology. Now Delphi developers can work with any database engine. Highlights: * Ariel fully supports both Microsoft and Borland database technologies. * It is an open object oriented architecture that can be extended by third parties. * It exposes all open call level interfaces. * It fully supports the Delphi visual component architecture. "Delphi is a great, powerful database application development product," said Nortech CEO, Jeffrey Shapiro, "Ariel now clearly makes it the best. "We see Ariel attracting three markets: Existing Delphi developers who need a powerful and flexible architecture to incorporate any database technology into their application; Microsoft Access, VB or C++ developers who want to use Delphi and retain support for Microsoft's advanced database technology or an Access installed base; and third party developers who want to build extensions and plug-ins to Ariel for their own needs or as Ariel partners." The Ariel ADE is now available with Nortech's Data Access Object (DAO) SDK. The Ariel DAO SDK provides full call level and VCL access to Microsoft's database technology. With the ADE developers can create Microsoft Jet database applications, and access SQL databases directly through Microsoft's ODBC support (Jet is the database engine at the heart of Access). The same applications can also access the BDE. The product ships with all necessary source code to allow a developer to expose or link a database engine, or any source of tabular or columnar data, into the ADE. Source code to build Ariel data access components and data aware visual controls is also provided. Developers can thus modify existing controls for which they have source code to access a database supported by Ariel or build new controls. Ariel visual controls work with any database supported by an Ariel engine plug-in. The ADE is also an open object oriented architecture, making it possible to build extensions to the environment and to easily adopt new and emerging database technology. The ADE and the Ariel DAO SDK plug-in is available in the Ariel early experience program (EEP). The EEP is designed to give developers all the resources needed to create and test database applications using the DAO technology. The program will provide software developers with all pre-release versions of the Ariel DAO SDK, and the final V1.0 release scheduled for Q1 '97, electronic access to the Ariel development team, all Ariel documentation and newsletters and contact with Nortech's developer relations, business development and strategic partnering staff. Members of the program will also be invited to participate in co-development activities and to attend development round-table discussions and advanced Delphi development courses planned for January. Nortech Software, Inc. announces Early Experience Program for the Ariel Data Access Objects (DAO) for Delphi SDK. FT. LAUDERDALE, Nov. 30---Nortech Software, Inc. announced today the opening of its early experience program for its Ariel Data Access Object (DAO) SDK for Delphi. The Ariel DAO SDK is a complete Object Pascal encapsulation of Microsoft's DAO technology. The DAO are the interface to the powerful Jet database engine, and Microsoft's core database technologies. Jet, or Joint Engine Technology, is the underpinning database technology of all Microsoft Office products and Microsoft Access. The Ariel SDK gives Delphi users complete access to Jet and ODBC from the Delphi visual component architecture or via a comprehensive, OO, call level interface (CLI). The early experience program has been opened to give eager Delphi developers a head start on application development for the gigantic Microsoft database and Access installed base. The SDK is in its final Beta stage and has been designed to make full use of the power of the Delphi OO RAD environment. It can be used to build all levels of database management systems, from simple stand-alone applications to scaleable, distributed client/server systems. The early experience program offers selected developers the complete final release of the Delphi-DAO library for making low-level calls to DAO methods, beta version data access components and data aware visual controls (via the Ariel Development Environment), technical support, documentation, samples, and the opportunity to influence key aspects and critical features of the SDK. "Nortech Software is very proud and excited to announce this product and to play a crucial role in Delphi database application development," said Executive VP and Director of Sales and Product Marketing, Karl Slatner. "Effective tools are a critical factor in database development. We see the Ariel DAO SDK doing great things for Delphi developers, making them money and empowering them to bring product to market easier and faster." "We are pleased to be able to make this contribution to Borland's exceptional Delphi RAD environment, which will facilitate the development of critical database and information management systems," said CEO, Jeffrey Shapiro. "We see the combination of Ariel and Delphi providing a formidable database development environment that will go a long way to help organizations and individuals solve the data and information management crisis." The EEP is designed to give developers all the resources needed to create and test database applications using the DAO technology.
