Maverick Console Version 3.5 Beta Introduction: 'Maverick Console' is a Windows 95 Remote Console system for use with the TCP/IP network protocol (TELNET) and can be accessed by any TELNET compliant terminal emulator such as the default Windows 95 Telnet version. It has been written by a Network Administrator to help remotely manage Windows 95 clients from a central location whilst user continues to work on the system blissfully unaware. 'Maverick Console' is a character based console system designed to supply key management features used by support staff to deal with many support issues that would normally require attendance at the system by the support personnel. The character based nature of this system gives maximum response even over the slowest network link. (This system has been used to support across Europe using Digital Mobile phone technology at 9600 baud). The system supplies many features that are unobtainable from any of Windows 95's default remote management systems, such as memory usage, remote application execution and full process display and control. Ideal for managing clients not running user level security (No NT Sever on site, such as DEC Pathworks server based systems and standalone clients) This is a no bells and whistles system designed to give maximum impact for minimum code size, the application is only 55k in size. The application has two user modes, ADMIN & SUPPORT, SUPPORT having all but KILL functionality and ADMIN having all functionality. An encrypted password file is held in a location set by the system manager (Location set in the registry and can be Local, Network drive letter or UNC based). Features: CD - Change default directory\n\r"); COPY - File copy\n\r (Source & destination must both include file names)\n\r"); DEL - Delete files\n\r"); DIR [/w] - Directory listing, /w = Brief\n\r"); DIRA - Alphabetic Directory listing\n\r"); DISK FREE [] - Show Free Disk Space\n\r"); ECHO - Set terminal echo on or off\n\r"); HIDE - Toggles Hide of local app when run\n\r"); KILL /NAME - Kill process (ADMIN PRIV ONLY)\n\r"); KILL /ID - Kill process (ADMIN PRIV ONLY)\n\r"); MD - Create Dir\n\r"); MEM - Memory details\n\r"); NOTE - Display Message\n\r"); NET USE - Display Network Cons.\n\r"); NET USE - Connect Net Drive\n\r"); NET DIS - Disconnect Net Drive\n\r"); PROC - Show Processes\n\r"); PATH - Show Current Path\n\r"); RD - Remove Dir\n\r"); SYSTEM - Show Procesor type\n\r"); TYPE - Display file contents\n\r"); USER - Show remote user name\n\r"); VER - Sho Version\n\r"); - Runs any Local App.\n\r"); x=A-Z - Set drive to x:\n\r"); HELP - Displays above info on screen. System Requirements:- Windows 95 (all current versions as of Nov 1996). TCP\IP protocol with valid route through to client. Telnet capable terminal package to access the client. Possible Uses: 1. Ever had an application failure on a remote site, many apps will fail if disk space is short, so zip in with Maverick Console and have a disk tidy up, this solves a nice percentage of 95 application problems at remote sites. 2. Monitor systems that report hangs etc. watch what processes are running and see how the memory is being hit. 3. Log in to a remote system and do a quick Audit. 4. Copy data onto a remote system. 5. Edit startup files remotely. 6. Poke stuff into the registries remotely. 7. Send note to user. And many more... All while the user is still working. Setup: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Place HCLIENT.EXE in C:\WINDOWS\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp directory. (Or run from registry Run option) Set Registry entry to point to password file by editing CLIENT.REG (right click, edit) and inserting file details (as drive letter or UNC name) i.e: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Maverick\Client] "Uaf"="\\\\prls01\\sysutil\\uaf.dat" or [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Maverick\Client] "Uaf"="D:\\uaf.dat" Then run CLIENT.REG on client PC to set details (Double click, or launch REGEDIT.EXE with CLIENT.REG as the parameter. Set Username, password and priv (A=all, S=User) by running CPASS.EXE and entering account details with file location details as entered in the REG file. Note.. delete any old password files prior to running CPASS. The password file should be placed in a read only service on your server, so that only admin staff can make the changes. Example:- To set up a shared password file in a common service called PCCOMMON on server THOR. Edit CLIENT.REG as shown bellow (Don't forget a backslash needs two backslashes to work) [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Maverick\Client] "Uaf"="\\\\THOR\\PCCOMMON\\uaf.dat" Issues to be aware of:- 1. With a network based password file, if the server is unavailable you will not get access to the client. 2. Make sure that you insert a space between command and parameters, CD\ will not work, use CD \ To connect just use Telnet from any system that has TCP/IP access to this node on your network. i.e telnet You will the enter username and password to gain access. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Changes in this version.. Added Path view, Fixed various DIR issues, Added Drive ref (type to go to M:), Note now works with lowercase, Proc now displays PID, Kill can kill by PID or Name, 5 user user defined UAF file added, Apps will run com or bat as well as exe, Added alphabetical dir listing. ******** Licensing *************** This is a TIMED Trial version of Maverick Console..
