If the following error occurs as you load Max; "Error during initialization" you will need to add the following line to the autoexec.bat file; c:\dos\share.exe Windows NT Users ================ MaxMiles has not been tested on a final release version of Windows NT 4.0 and thus will not be supported if you choose to install it on such a system. Windows NT 3.51 systems may experience some start up errors. Gateway 2000 PC's seem to be the most temperamental, especially if you have a dual Windows 95 and Windows NT system. You will need to check the path statement in the autoexec.bat file - if you are running Win95, but the WinNT directory appears in the path before the Win95 directory, certain programs may conflict. Windows 95 Users ================ IBM thinkpad Some older notebooks running Windows 95 have been known to have start up errors. Adding the share utility to the autoexec.bat file generally resolves this problem. GENERAL ======= 1. Zip Codes When entering your zip code, do not use a zip code extension or MaxMiles will exit. (e.g., enter 60605, not 60605-1234) 2. Flight Distances The airlines calculate mileage between cities based on the longitude and latitude of the city airport and an equation known as the "great circle distance." This is an approximation as the earth is not a perfect sphere, and there seem to be a number of different approximation that the airlines use. As such you may find that the miles calculated by MaxMiles are not always the same as appears on your frequent flyer statement. We have used the mileage quoted by the largest two US carriers; United Airlines and American Airlines for the most common city pairs. 3.
