The pak files are the main means of distributing the many files needed to run the game. Do to their size and stucture it is not a good idea to try editing their contents. However, after the files are unpacked, editing is made simpler. You do not need to have your files in the pak format for Quake to read them, if the files are abscent, then Quake will look in the oppropriate dictories. (Note that for Quakeworld to read the necessary files, they must be in a pack archive. A real bummer from an editing point of view.) UnpackThis button takes all the entries in the pak fileand stores them as files on your hard drive, preserving the directorial structure. ExtractThe extract button stores the currently selectedentry as a file on your hard drive, directory structure is preserved here as well. CreatingTo create your very own pak file, choose thedirectory you wish to archive, then select the Create Pack option in the file menu. |
