Pack Archive

The pak files are the main means of distributing the
many files needed to run the game. Do to their size
and stucture it is not a good idea to try editing their
contents. However, after the files are unpacked, editing
is made simpler. You do not need to have your files in
the pak format for Quake to read them, if the files are
abscent, then Quake will look in the oppropriate dictories.
(Note that for Quakeworld to read the necessary files, they
must be in a pack archive. A real bummer from an editing point
of view.)
