Palettes and Colormaps

Palettes are a list of the rgb values of the 256 colors
the Quake can use for its graphics. A colormap is lump
of data which determines how the colors are displayed
when shaded.

Opening up a palette allows you create a colormap from
it. When you choose the file to save the colormap in, you
will see this dialog box.

The full bright variable determines the number of colors in
the palette that do not recieve shading, but are always their
normal intensity. The indexes in the palette that are the full
brights start from the end and include the transparency index.

The range value determines the overall brightness of the levels
after shading. Decreasing this value to 1 would halve the shading.
