Version 1.2 PR1

What's new?

HTML support

WebWriter/2 now includes support for the W3C's HTML 3.2 specification. In addition several commonly used Netscape Navigator extensions, such as Frames and embedded objects (i.e., plugin content) are also supported. The complexity of HTML 3.2 and the sheer number of attributes supported by many tags has required some reorganization of the Tags menu as well as expanded use of optional prompting. Most of the commonly used attributes have also been added separately to the Attributes menu.

New & Open

The behavior of the File/New & File/Open commands has changed somewhat. Rather than supporting separate commands under the Windows menu (which has been removed), I have combined this functionality with these File menu commands. File/New will now open a new edit window, unless there is no open document in the current edit window. File/Open will open documents in another window, unless there is no open document in the current edit window or if the open document has not been saved and is empty.

Tools menu

A new Tools menu has been added. The Window manager, Tag manager and Character manager have been moved to this menu and additonal functions have been added or are planned for this menu. The Seek and Scan Files utility can be accessed from this menu currently and I'm looking for other useful tools to add. A third party product that I have added support for is Craig Berry's Orb.

Orb Support

If Orb is installed as described in the orb_ww2.txt file, menu options providing access to Orb commands and variables will appear in the Tools menu. You will also have access to the WebWriter/2 - Orb project manager which can be used to manage and compile your Orb projects.

HTML reference

I have included, and made accessable from the Help menu, the Web Design Group's HTML 3.2 (Wilbur) reference. This reference was originally written in HTML and later converted to .INF format by Arnoud "Galactus" Engelfriet.

In progress...

Work on WebWriter/2 v1.2 continues and at least a couple more major enhancements are planned. First is an HTML tag pallette which will be designed to allow quick access to commonly used tags and program functions. Another new feature being worked on is an HTML Clippings manager. This function is intended to work in a manner similar to the Tag manager, but will allow saving and reusing 'clippings' of any size.

I have released this 'preview' version of v1.2 in order to make available the HTML 3.2 support which it contains. I will probably release additional previews of v1.2 as work progresses so that you can take advatage of the additional functionality as it is added.
