SpyderWEB Freeware Version 1.1 2/5/97 SpyderWEB is a programming toolkit for making Bulletin Board (BBS) door programs capable of sending HTML documents (web pages). This means that almost anyone who can write a door game or door program for a BBS can make them appear as a web site with a world wide web internet look and feel. ****************************** FREEWARE ******************************** This version is Freeware, please distribute freely. Since it is a demo program it will only send up to 7 HTML pages every time it is run. That should give people enough opportunity to test the software and see if they can use it. The registered version will send an unlimited number of web pages / HTML documents. It only costs US $ 9.95. We accept payment in any major currency, money orders, or checks. ***************************** PROGRAMMING ****************************** This kit is designed for use with the Borland Turbo c++ for DOS version 3.0. We suspect it will work with other Borland compilers as well but haven't tested them. Study the example test.c program with the test.prj project file. The basic idea is to link our spyder1.obj object file with your code (represented by test.c). We use the LARGE memory module throughout. We also use OpenDoors version 5.0 door programming library. It is a truly excellent door programming library for c programming. Opendoors may be found on many programming BBS's and CD's. ****************************** FEEDBACK ******************************** Visit our BBS or send us email and let us know what you are doing and how you like this product. Since this product is freeware we are limited in the amount of technical support we will give. The registered version comes with two hours free technical support. ****************************** BBS SETUP ******************************** Put all the files in a subdirectory, we call ours c:\bbs\test Make certain there isnt a drop file in that subdirectory. We usually use dorinfo1.def for local testing and development work. We might include a copy of our dorinfo1.def in the kit to facilitate your local testing. IF THERE ARE TWO COPIES OF DROP FILES IN THE SUBDIRECTORY CONTAINING TEST.EXE THE PROGRAM WILL NOT WORK. The program is set up like a door game. On our TAG 2.7 BBS running on IBM-DOS 5.0, 386sx-40, 4 MB RAM, 270 MB hard drive we use this batch file to call the program test.exe: copy door.sys c:\bbs\test cd c:\bbs\test test.exe cd c:\bbs The program is designed to use dsz.com for zmodem communications. When installing your program on your bbs make certain dsz is either in the subdirectory with your program or listed in the path. FOR LOCAL TESTING it is useful to use a dummy dsz program. We use dsz.bat. It has only one word in it. Hello. That's it. But it works great for program development. Dsz.com is available from a lot of BBS or programming BBS's and on some CD's also. ****************************** WEB PAGES ******************************** We included a couple HTML pages for example purposes. They are named hello.htm and quit.htm. Quit.htm is becomming a standard for us. When someone requests quit.htm they see a goodbye message and control returns to the BBS. Hello.htm is an example of a simple web page that you could show callers to your BBS. You could use any HTML page you like, as many pages as you like, and show gifs, include hyperlinks to other pages, sound files, avi files, textured backgrounds, SVGA graphics, beautiful fonts, and all kinds of neat stuff. ****************************** HTML GAMES ******************************* Since you know what file is being sent you can now write a program that keeps score or tracks your position. For example, you could write a dungeons and dragons maze type exploration game where players can click on links that say "East", "West", "North", or "South" and show web (HTML) pages with gifs of each "room" in the maze with a description of the items / monsters in each room. Your code can track your position. If a user clicks on the "Pick up the gold coin" hyperlink, your program increments the player.gold counter by 1 coin. And all you have to do is link your program with spyder1.obj when you compile. It's so easy! ******************************** BUY IT ********************************* The registered version of this toolkit is only US $ 9.95 and supports unlimited numbers of HTML pages. You can write as many programs as you want with it at no additional charge. You'll get two hours of technical support via our support BBS or email included with the registered version. The registered version has no advertising for Hypernet Software so it should smoothly integrate into your program. ***************************** WHY DO THIS? ****************************** People keep saying that BBS's are declining in popularity because everyone is going to internet and the world wide web. We found that there is a LOT of interest in our BBS ever since we started writing programs that offer world wide web internet style HTML pages from our BBS. Our BBS is FREE. People can surf our BBS web site and play our WWW style door games for FREE. They dont have to pay $ 20 a month for access. Almost anyone can have their own BBS for very little money, and with our webBBS software and a few of your WWW style games people could practically have their own web site. And we deliver stereo sound effects, stereo music, animation, movies, gifs, beautiful pictures and interesting games this way. You can let your creativity soar. Take your programming skill to new dimensions and develop new ideas. People love to see new things and this is a totally wide open area to program in. **************************** I-COMM BROWSER ***************************** We use the I-Comm www internet browser version 1.15 beta 2 (a combination modem software and browser capable of showing web pages via modem) to connect to bulletin boards and browse their web pages. There are some special features of that particular version of I-Comm. You can download I-Comm version 1.15 beta 2 and instructions on how to use it from our support BBS. Leave a message for us if you have any questions, we love to have visitors! ************************** DETROIT PROGRAMMERS ************************** Eric VonHypernet Jackal CyBerDuDE!
