REVISION HISTORY ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1.2.2 (March 2, 1997): ====================== - Aarghh! Another small error in the MMX detection! So there's this small updated release (with the same version number). 1.2.2 (February 26, 1997): ========================== - Display of Pentium MMX commands was wrong in the Processor page (wrong bit tested); on CPUID/Pentium, it was correct. Also, some other additions to Intel and Cyrix CPU info have been made. - Extensive chipset information for: - Intel 430FX "Triton" (82437FX TSC, 82438FX TDP, 82371FB PIIX ISA/IDE) - Intel 430MX "Mobile Triton" (82437MX MTSC, 82438MX MTDP, 82371MX MPIIX) - Intel 430HX "TXC" (82439HX TXC, 82372SB PIIX3 ISA/IDE/USB) - Intel 430VX "TVX" (82437VX TVX, 82438VX TDX, PIIX3) - Intel 440FX "Natoma" (82441FX PMC, 82442FX DBX, PIIX3) - Hardware/Graphics now also displays PCI graphics and multimedia-video devices; this also means that Matrox cards that were misinterpreted as OAK cards should now be displayed correctly. - For debugging: For the following two items (if they crash on your system) you can find out (and tell me) the exact point of a crash of agSI by using the Extra Debug mode (command-line switch /dx): - PCI check (which is now already performed during initialisation) or PCI sub-list Hardware/PCI/more (on some fast systems) - Hardware/Sound, which may happen if you have a NE2000 compatible net- work card. - Other minor things: - Hard disk benchmark now also shows linear read throughput, not just the one from the disk's internal cache. - More hard disk partition types are known, including Win95b FAT32. - The sublists of PCI info always showed the info from function 0, not that of other subfunctions of multi-function devices. - On fast systems, agSI might have (sometimes) refused to run, showing just a Run-Time Error 200 at xxxx:0091: Division by Zero. This was caused by a timing loop in Borland Pascal 7's CRT unit (from 1992) not being appropriate for today's systems; however, the few Delay commands agSI uses may be slightly mis-timed now (should have no adversary effects). - On some systems with Adaptec cards, PCI crashed (with a general pro- tection fault under Windows) due to some strange error with some of agSI's internal data; corrected. - CPU Clock frequency and cache sizes now also displayed under Windows, but may be inaccurate. 1.2.1 (January 6, 1997) ======================= Oh boy, already half a year since the last release..... - I've moved! (New address: see Readme/Online help) (My parents still live at the old Heilbronn address, though, so don't worry if you just wrote there.) - PCMCIA (PC-Cards) Socket Services information now available; however, only in a beta-testing state with weakly formatted output Ä please e-mail me your output, that'll help me improve it. - The Disk Benchmark now tests not just the seek-only time, but also the real access time (seek+read); and it's now also available under Windows 95. - More information about Plug and Play: it's now a submenu if you have a PnP BIOS. Also, the Plug&Play option wouldn't display all device nodes, only about 10. This was caused by a too cautious test... fixed now. - CPU detection and details for AMD and Cyrix CPUs. - In the Memory/Speed list, it's now also checked if the cacheable area is big enough for all your memory (not in V86 mode). - Batch mode added, to let you run agSI without further interaction (well, except pressing a key in the unregistered version...). - Other improvements/fixes: - The PCI list now shows all functions (not just the first) of a device. - The memory speed test is now performed under Windows 95; however, not all values may be sensible... - FAT32 information under MS-DOS 7.1 / Win95 OSR2 (in Drive Parameter Block and Media Information pages). - Configuration files are now shown for hard disks other than C:, too. - With some graphics cards, the screen would go blank after the graphics detection, which seemed like a lock-up (but you could exit agSI with Alt-X and type 'mode co80' at the DOS prompt, and everything would be fine). Now, agSI re-sets the video mode so that this shouldn't occur anymore. - The directory tree now finally displays Win95 long names (and tildes are displayed correctly now). - A few lines more about modems (more AT+Fxxx? commands). - And a little bit more about APM (v1.2+). - ATAPI info didn't work on some systems (with Intel EIDE chip). - Description of XMS available/total memory was a bit messed up. - A little bit of this, a little bit of that... 1.2.0 (June 23, 1996) ===================== - New sub-menu showing Configuration Files: CONFIG.SYS/DOS/W40, DCONFIG.SYS, CONFIG.PTS, AUTOEXEC.BAT/DOS/W40, MSDOS.SYS/W40, WIN.INI, SYSTEM.INI, WINSTART.BAT, DOSSTART.BAT. (Planned is further analyzing (beyond just highlighting some keywords as it is now) and commenting of these files for a future release.) - DocMode added: run agSI with the ~/DOC~ command line switch to browse through the online documentation without any information detection rou- tine being executed. - Online registration now available on my WWW page in the Internet. - Other improvements/fixes: - Additional hard disks (Int13 units) that were added later in the boot process (seen under Win95) did not appear in agSI. - Added a short delay in the modem test, because it didn't work with some modems (Motorola) correctly (on my system). - Port addresses for IDE ports may now be set in the INI file. Also the default addresses for 3rd and 4th port have been changed to the usually used 1E8h and 168h, respectively. - Pentium Pro: Configuration info (cache characteristics), BIOS update function, more capabilities flags. - The new (VGADOC4) graphics card detection method may be disabled now - sorry, forgot that in the last release. - Sorry I didn't do as much as I wanted, and as some of you might have ex- pected Ä I didn't have all the time needed for agSI, and when I had some time I often wasn't in the mood to do so (especially when the weather was so good as it recently often was Ä I rather went to the swimming-pool...) 1.1.4 (Feb 27, 1996) ==================== - Credit cards Ä VISA, Diners Club, American Express Ä accepted! Eurocard/ Mastercard soon Ä so, ask! (or look at my WWW page). - More info about Quarterdeck's QEMM; also, corrected display of memory sizes in the DPMI list. - A few adaptions to Windows 95: - Application title of the DOS window (second part of it) changed. - agSI made "close-aware", i.e. you can close it from the window's system menu or with the close button in the upper right corner (unless a dia- log window in agSI is open). [seems to be not working sometimes...] - File date corrected and Compressed attribute added in directory list (i.e. dir tree sub-lists). - Open files and... - Drive Map Info for each logical drive. - Other improvements/fixes: - At some places with physical drives, the cylinder number was one to low (i.e. only the maximum number, not the total number). - For changeable hard drives, Logical Drive Overview caused errors when no media was inserted. - PCI BIOS detection changed slightly because it wasn't detected on some systems [hope it works now]. - More names for PCI vendors and devices: now 447 and 446, respectively (was 296/166). 1.1.3 (Dec 18, 1995) ==================== - As announced in v1.1.2, the registration fee has been increased: to US$23 (DM 30). Credit cards (American Express, VISA, Diners Club) will be ac- cepted soon, so ask me if you can use them for payment! (Mastercard/Euro- card not before March 96) - Added a start-up screen which displays what is tested next, somewhat like the /DX command line switch (but /DX shows more). - General Overview with 16 lines of info; shown (by default) automatically when agSI is started. - IDE drive info moved to a separate sub-menu, thus avoiding the need to set the IDEDriveMapping INI setting; also, added info for ATAPI devices (such as CD-ROMs). - Video card detection improved dramatically: now implemented using Finn Thoegersen's VGADOC4, which detects much more than my own old routine. - More information from Quarterdeck's QEMM-386 and Helix's NetRoom memory managers. - Bugs fixed, and other new stuff: - Linux DOSEMU test has been made safer for systems that crashed here (outside Linux); you can remove the Disable=OOSL line from the INI file if you added it. - Both modem info for non-modem devices, and ASPI info about a pseudo- ASPI drive under Windows 95 (ATAPI CD-ROM; at least on my system) could have caused an endless loop; now fixed. - Newer CPUs like Pentiums that were detected as Intel or C&T 386 DX/SX under Windows or OS/2 should be displayed correctly now. - NexGen Nx586 CPUs should now be detected. - Plug and Play BIOS info (product ID, attributes sub-list) corrected. - Ontrack DiskManager detected (per physical drive). ============================================================================= history for older versions can be found in the online help
