Follow these simple instructions, depending on which operating system you are using... (1) Unarchive the original .ZIP file (presumably, you have already done this since you are reading the help file or readme). (2) Place the files that come out of the original .ZIP archive into a temporary directory somewhere on your hard drive. The installation program will install the program where you tell it to during the setup procedure. If the directory doesn't exist, it will create it for you and move all of the needed files into that sub-directory. (3) Run the SETUP.EXE program that you have just moved in step #2. (A) If you are in Win95, you can run it from a DOS command line session; or you can click on My Computer and the icon representing the hard drive and folder where you moved the SETUP.EXE program; or you can click the START button and choose RUN from the START MENU and specify the path where the SETUP.EXE program is located. If you don't understand these concepts, see the Windows 95 documentation for more details. (B) If you are using Windows 3.1, be SURE you have Win32s v1.3 or later installed on your system. If you are not running Win32s v1.3 or later, this Win32 Automated EpGuide WILL NOT WORK! You can download the latest version of Win32s from the MicroSoft WWW/FTP page or from most decent local BBSs. After making sure you have Win32s installed, do this... Click on the FILE menu at the top of the screen in the Windows Program Manager (If you don't understand the Program Manager concept, or don't see the FILE menu, refer to the Windows 3.1 documentation for details). A drop down menu will appear with several options. Click on RUN (it should be the next-to-the-last item on this menu). A dialog box will appeare on your screen with four buttons: OK, CANCEL, BROWSE, and HELP. Use the BROWSE button to tell Windows where the SETUP.EXE is located on your hard drive. You will get a BROWSE dialog box where you can click on the various directories and disk drives that you maintain on your computer -- if you aren't sure how to use this dialog box, see the Windows 3.1 documentation for more information. Once you have told Windows where to find SETUP.EXE, the RUN dialog box will have the path and filename in the COMMAND LINE text box. Click on the OK button. If you did everything correctly, you should see the INSTALLATION PROGRAM WINDOW appear on your desktop. If you don't see the A.E.G. window, go back to the (B) above and make sure you did everything correctly. After you get the Installation Program Window on your desktop, simply follow the directions that the program gives you. NOTE: You can also use the Windows 3.1 File Manager to run SETUP.EXE. If you don't know how to use the Windows 3.1 File Manager to run programs, see the Windows documentation for more details... ========================================================================= A Couple of Notes About UNINSTALLING the Win32 Automated EpGuide ========================================================================= The Win32 Automated EpGuide Installation Program installs an UNINSTALL program for your convenience. I know only a lunatic would ever want to uninstall such a fantastic program as this, but it takes all kinds, huh? If you ever think you might want to use the UNINSTALL program, be sure that you (1) Don't delete the UNINST.EXE file that's copied to the Win32 A.E.G. directory; and (2) Don't delete the INSTALL.LOG file that's also copied to the A.E.G. directory. The former is the actual UnInstall program and the latter is a list of actions that this program will perform to successfully uninstall the Win32 A.E.G. If UNINST.EXE can't find the INSTALL.LOG program, you'll have to manually uninstall the program, so make sure you don't delete it! ========================================================================= UNINSTALLING THIS PROGRAM (Blasphemy!) ========================================================================= Did you REALLY give the Win32 Automated EpGuide a fair chance? Be honest! Seriously, if you want to UNINSTALL the Win32 Automated EpGuide, this procedure is just about as painless and easy as the original installation was... When you originally installed the Win32 A.E.G., a Program Item (Win 3.1) or shortcut (Windows 95) was created for you under the name "Uninstall The A.E.G." (or something very similar). Double click on this icon and follow the prompts -- depending on how you want to go about uninstalling the program -- there's an AUTOMATIC button for a quick, total wipeout approach; and a CUSTOM button for getting rid of SOME of the files. NOTE: Be 100% sure you want to TOTALLY UNINSTALL the program before going through with these procedures. The UnInstall program physically deletes the files from your hard drive and removes the directories (if they are empty). But don't worry, the uninstall program WON'T remove the original SETUP.EXE if you still have it in the same directory that you installed the A.E.G. Also: If you accidentally deleted the Program Item (Win 3.1) or shortcut (Windows 95) to the UnInstall program, simply run the program named UNINST.EXE that was copied to the Win32 Automated EpGuide's directory. One caution -- make sure you maintain the filenamed INSTALL.LOG in the same directory as the UNINST.EXE -- this is a list of actions that the uninstall program will have to perform to uninstall the Win32 A.E.G. If you deleted the INSTALL.LOG file, you will have to manually uninstall the program! If you clicked the CUSTOM button, a SELECT PRIVATE FILES TO REMOVE dialog will appear (see illustration above). NOTE: If you only remove part of the files installed on your system, some things may not work if you try to run the Win32 Automated EpGuide, so use caution! Once you are through choosing the file(s), click the CONTINUE button and a SELECT DIRECTORIES dialog will appear, followed by a SELECT ICONS dialog. These dialogs are self-explanatory. When you are through picking the parts to UnInstall (CUSTOM button) or if you clicked the AUTOMATIC button, a progress dialog will popup telling you exactly what is being removed (see illustration above). I hope you are a speed reader because this bad boy moves FAST! When the UNINSTALL PROGRAM gets to the folder/shortcuts/icons, that folder will pop up on your desktop and the icons will disappear, then the folder will disappear. The Win32 Automated EpGuide is now gone. Sad, really. Note: If you moved the original .ZIP file or the SETUP.EXE program to the A.E.G. directory after installation, these files won't be deleted, and the directory will remain on your hard drive. If the A.E.G. directory is empty after the UnInstall Program is through removing the other parts of the program, this directory will also be removed.
