DATE RECEIVED- JUN 02, 1997 REQUEST STANDING - REVIEW AS OF- JUN 16, 1997
                              TYPE- MOD/IMP

 DESCRIPTION-

WPS has a lot of potential but it suffers from:

        a. INI file corruption

        b. INI file garbage accumulation

        c. Troubles getting associations (*.txt, Plain Text,
WordPro, *.gif) to go with what I want.

        d. Bulk - what does OS/2 use all the memory for?

        e. INI file - lack of cleaner and efficient archiver.
The Desktop archiver option takes far too long, uses
too much disk space, and confuses the WPS (That is,
multiple Startup Folders, Template folders, ...)
            Ever heard of zip.exe?

        f. Lack of good software. Even Word Pro doesn't allow
you to rename or move a file while it is open. IBM
Works (BonusPak) is pretty good at this.

        User interface

        a. Intuitive means familiar => copy Microsoft and it will
be intuitive. This is very important, most people
don't have time to learn new things. If you give them
a choice of two things that both basically work, say
Win95 and OS/2, they'll choose the one which is more
familiar because it means less work.

        b. Microsoft's Control Panel is useful for administrators.
One knows where to look to configure things. This is
not always the case, of course, but it is better than
setup programs appearing on the desktop and then users
dropping them who-knows-where and a different place for
            each person.

        c. SIQ has not been fixed yet. Keep trying.

        d. OS/2's networking support is confusing to setup.
Microsoft obviously put some thought into stepping into
the network age. Copy what they have done. Instead of
needing separate programs to configure things you just
            go to Control Panel Network.
