A free standing e-mail helper app for Internet faxing with FaxWorks Pro.
FxEmail will mime encode your fax (alternative uuencode) and send it out via SMTP to any Internet address simply by using that Internet address in lieu of a phone number in version 3+ of FaxWorks Pro. No external e-mail software is required to send.
FxEmail will also function as a REXX exit in PMMail 1,92 (and probably other e-mail packages) to decode the fax file and automatically receive it into your Fax log just as if it had been received by conventional means.

BRUNSWICK, VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA, (May 31, 1997) - To all commercial ISV's - WarpSpeed Computers is offering use of its Internet server to provide a single unified site for updates of their products. The offer is open to all commercial ISV's who are shipping OS/2 products. There is no charge for this service. IBM have offered their full support for this initiative by placing a link from their updates page to the WarpSpeed Computers page.
Updates to products, particularly when dealing with multiple vendors, can often be tedious and very time consuming to find and install. WarpSpeed Computers is offering its Internet server as a holding site for updates. The updates will be made available via four different methods. Gopher and FTP will be provided for those users who prefer a standard gopher or FTP interface. Also provided is a modified gopher server which is needed for the "Retrieve Software Updates" program that was supplied with OS/2 Warp 3.
Support for the newer web based "Retrieve Software Updates" (RSU) program is also provided. IBM is using the RSU method for the distribution of its own CSD's and other updates. Using the RSU method, the user clicks on a link to a small RSU file. This RSU file is recognized by a suitably modified web browser (IBM provides an update program for Netscape and Web Explorer users), downloaded and passed onto the RSUINST.EXE program. The RSUINST program downloads the real updates and then runs an install program.
The site has been fully operational for a month and we have had two ISV's join up. Spitfire Software (InCharge!) and Sundial Systems (Mesa, Relish, DBExpert) have had their latest updates made available using this service and the reports back have been encouraging. It seems that users do indeed appreciate this service.

"The real aim of this offering is to make it is easier on the users. Nothing else," says Director and CEO Chris Graham. HACKSAW takes FTP to a new level of simplicity and sophistication. If you maintain a web site, you need this tool! Imagine updating your site with a single command. HACKSAW is a very useful command line tool for people who want something more than the existing FTP tools. But HACKSAW is much more. It can retrieve web pages and other web-based files using the HTTP protocol, or it can retrieve just their headers. It can send email messages to a single email address or to an entire mailing list through an SMTP server. It can retrieve, count, and/or delete any or all messages waiting for you on a POP3 mail server.
Rich FTP Functions:
HACKSAW supports the traditional FTP commands such as DIR, RENAME, DELETE, SEND and GET as well as SITE commands. Additionally, it implements SENDALL and GETALL which can be used to send or retrieve all the files in the specified directory. SENDALL and GETALL support wildcard character patterns such as *.HTM or S*.* and can also work only on files with a date stamp more recent than a specified one. SYNCHOST and SYNCLOCAL send all the files from the one location to the other, which exist on the source but not on the target, or have a later date stamp on the source than the matching file on the target. SENDALL and SYNCHOST let you specify whether you want the files sent with uppercase filenames, lowercase filenames, or using the same filenames as they exist on the local drive. All six of these Send/Get commands can automatically perform a specified SITE command against the host file(s) after the file transfer(s)!
Flexible Control File, Command Line or Prompted Operation:
You can use control files to perform the same or similar FTP function on a whole list of filename specifications at once, retrieve HTTP-based files, retrieve mail from multiple POP3 accounts at once, or send mail via SMTP.
HACKSAW can also take its instructions from the command line, from its configuration (INI) file, or any combination of these without any user interaction at runtime. This way, it can perform functions during off-peak hours by means of a task scheduler or alarm program such as InnoVal's WebSched. (WebSched provides support for the Windows 95 and Windows NT dialers without waiting for a user to click on a dialog button before dialing.) An optional batch file or other program running HACKSAW can determine what HACKSAW did, because HACKSAW returns errorlevel codes to tell such a program whether it ran into any errors, or how many pieces of mail it found waiting on a POP3 server, etc.
Whatever instructions you don't feed to HACKSAW via the command line, a control file, or the configuration file, it will prompt you for at run time. So if you like, you can just tell it the main function you want it to execute, and it will ask you for all the other information it needs to perform that function, a piece at a time. You can run it that way if you prefer to have the program remind you of what it needs to know, so you don't have to think of everything in advance.
OS/2 and Windows 95/NT Versions Available:
The OS/2 and Windows 95/NT versions are compiled from the exact same source code, so the two versions are identical and released concurrently. You can even share one configuration file between the two versions, if you use both operating systems.
The OS/2 version comes with two REXX programs, one of which is a very configurable Spam Filter (or Twit Filter) which will delete unwanted messages from your POP3 server before your regular email program clutters your mailbox with them.
