Information in this document is more current than that in the manuals or online Help. ------------------------ How to Use This Document ------------------------ To view README.TXT on screen in Windows Notepad, maximize the Notepad window. To print README.TXT, open it in Windows Write, Microsoft Word, or another word processor. Then select the entire document and format the text in 10-point Courier before printing. ========================================= Part 1: Software Installation Information ========================================= To install VC Computing Fax phone Builder, use the Program Manager or File Manager to create a sub-directory, then start copy everything from A:\*.* in your target directory. To install from DOS prompt. Example: 1.) Make a sub-directory: MD C:\FAXB1 { Press Enter } 2.) Install program: COPY A:*.* C:\FAXB1 { Press Enter } ================================================== Part 2: Using VC Computing Fax phone Builder V1.0 ================================================== From DOS Prompt type: FAXB1 [ASCIIFile] [Option] ASCIIFile: Must be an ASCII file. Use your word processor to convert RTF file to ASCII file. An RTF format is recommended if you use OCR software with your mailing list. Once all pages are saved under one RTF file. You open the RTF file with Word for Windows. You format your document to font size 8, 7, or 6. Sometimes, you may have to expand the margin so each address can be seen as one line. Save it as ASCIIFile.TXT. If you wish to sort your mailing list, do it before saving your ASCIIFile.TXT. FAXB1 converts this file to WINFAX or COLORFAX PhoneBook Format. If you rather make multiple lines addresses. FAXB1 will still work with your file, but be sure to leave one blank line in between each record. FAXB1 sees the blank line as a record separator. The draw back of this method is, you won't be able to use your WinWord's sort feature. Option: /C Converts ASCIIFile mailing list to ColorFax PhoneBook format FAXB1 defaults to WinFax PhoneBook format. /L Lists output to screen. /? Shows help information. ============================================= Part 3: VC Computing Fax phone Builder V1.0 ============================================= Building a fax phone book manually is a tedious job. FAXB1.EXE is an intelligent utility designed for you to transfer hard copy or Electronic mailing list(with fax numbers) to your Winfax or ColorFax phone book. You no longer have to spend hundred of hours typing names and fax telephone numbers. FAXB1 converts a mailing list file to a Dbase file for your Winfax or ColorFax to import in its phone book. You can transfer thousand of names in less than 10 seconds. This utility is ideal for transferring hard & soft copies of telephone books, manufacturer directories, software vendor directories, job listing directories, employer directories, etc.. to WinFax phone book. Here is how you can save hundreds of hours building a fax phone book. Scan in your fax listing through your OCR software. Save all pages in one RTF file. Convert it to ASCII file with your word processor program. Name this ASCII file as WhatEver.Txt. Converting RTF file to ASCII file using Microsoft Word for Windows: EXAMPLE 1: 1.) Run WinWord and open the RTF file 2.) Format the whole document with character size 8 or 7 using Courier font. (You can sort your listing now if you wish) 3.) Under "File" menu a) Click on "Save as" Under "Save file as type" a) click on "Word document (*.doc)" b) click on "Text Only (*.txt)" c) click on "File name" and type "WhatEver.txt" d) click on [ Ok ] button. 4.) Go to DOS PROMPT and Type Faxb1 WhatEver.txt The database file is built and it's ready to import into your Winfax or Colorfax phone book. The output file will be named after its input file name, with new extension ".db". If you want to import it to ColorFax, you must use the following command: Faxb1 WhatEver.txt /C For more information, type: Faxb1 /? ====================================================== Part 4: VC Computing Fax phone Builder V1.0 internal. ====================================================== The accuracy of your OCR software depends on the clarity of your document and the scanner resolution. OCR software is capable of misinterpreting a fax phone number. Faxb1 will correct the misinterpreted numbers for you. This will save you more time. If you have suggestions for OCR correction, please fax your request and registration fee to us. We will send you a new version to meet your need. A.) Faxb1 will correct the following fax OCR errors: Errors Correction 'i' '1' 'l' '1' 'S' '5' 'o' '0' 'O' '0' B) Faxb1 removes duplicated fax numbers, this will save your long distance phone bills. C) Faxb1 uses a smart algorithm to find the fax phone number. You can mix other telephone number with addresses and other numbers, Faxb1 will find the right fax number for you.
