  Crochet Kitchen Towel

  Here is a pattern that uses the popcorn st.  You will need
  about 2 1/2 oz of worsted weight yarn to do 1 dish towel
  that is cut in half. Use a size 3 steel hook to work the
  first row and then change to a size G hook.
  Cut the towel in half widthwise. Hold the towel piece with
  right side facing you and the cut edge at the top. Fold >>
  over about 1/4" of cut edge to the wrong side to make a hem.
  Row 1: With yarn and Size 3 hook attach yarn and work 51 sc
  spaced evenly across top edge, working over the hem.  Row
  2:Change to G hook. Ch 3 (counts as first dc on each row
  throughout) turn; sk first sc, dc in next sc, dec over next
  2 sc as follows: YO hook and draw up a lp in next sc(3 lps
  now on hook); YO hook and draw through first 2 lps on hook
  (2 loops now on hook); YO hook and draw up a lp in next sc(4
  lps now on hook); YO hook and draw through all 3 lps on hook
  (dec made). *Dc in each of next 3 sc, dec over next 2 sc;
  rep from * to last 2 sc, dc in each of last 2 sc = 41 dc>>
  Row 3; (PC row): Ch 3, turn; dc in next dc, work
  PC(popcorn) in next dc as follows: Work 4 dc in st, drop lp
  from hook; insert hook in first dc of 4-dc group just made,
  pick up dropped lp and pull through st on hook(PC made).
  * Dc in each of next 2 dc, work PC in next dc; rep from * to
  last 2 sts, dc in next dc, dc in top of ch 3. 13 PC.
  Row 4; Ch 3, turn. Dc in each of next 2 sts, * dec over next
  2 sts, dc in next st; rep from * to last 3 sts, dc in each
  of next 2 sts, dc in top of ch 3. 29 dc.  Row 5; Rep row 3.
  9 PC.  Row 6; Ch 3, turn. Dc in each of next 2 sts, *dce
  over next 2 sts; rep from * to last 2 sts, dc in next st,>>
  dc in top of ch 3. 17 dc.  Row 7; Rep row 3.  5 PC.  Row 8;
  Ch 3, turn; * dec over next 2 sts; rep from * across.  9 dc
  Row 9: Ch 3, turn; dc in next dc, * work PC in next dc, dc
  in next dc; rep from * twice more, dc in top of ch 3. 3 PC
  Row 10: Ch 3, turn; dc in next st, * dec over next sts; rep
  from * twice more, dc in top of ch 3.  6 dc.  Row 11: Ch 3,
  turn; dc in each of next 4 dc, dc in top of ch 3. 6 dc.
  Rows 12 - 14: rep row 11, 3 times.  Row 15: ch 3, turn; *
  dec over next 2 dc; rep from 8 once more, dc in top of ch 3.
  4 dc.  Row 16: Ch 3, turn; dec over next 2 dc, dc in top of
  ch 3. 3dc.  Row 17:(button lp) Ch 16, turn; sk next dc >>>
  sl st in top of ch 3. Finish off; weave in ends securely.
  Sew button on back of towel at center of first row.
  The button loop does stretch, so you might want to omit it
  and sew velcro on instead.  Do the other half of the towel
  the same way.  I have made several of these and they are
  holding up beautifully.  I use washable yarn and always wash
  them in hot water.  They haven't faded or shrunk.
