By: MaryLu I Love Needlework Fair - Anahem Info... I Love Needlework Fair Information Update Today I became personally concerned about not seeing the Information Packets on the I Love Needlework Fair scheduled for October 13-16, at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, CA... and decided to personally track down Joan Cravens to find out the scoop. (Cue "Mission Impossible Theme"....) My second call yielded none other than Joan herself, who was "delighted" to hear that there were some of us who were waiting for our material. (We need to get this lady a modem!... She wants to join us online!) She asked me to tell all of you net-folks, that the information for the Anaheim Show will be mail in the next 10 days. (About August 8th if I can add this week.) This year she is going to be using a telephone registration service, so as soon as you get your brochure, and make up your minds, CALL! The telephone registration will be able to register your for classes and confirm you immediately! In addition she gave me the scoop on the classes, and here is what my 2 pages of notes say about what is coming... A. The site is the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, CA. They are going to be using the lovely convention center area, and a considerable amount of the meeting rooms. (Wear your comfortable shoes, and if you are planning on staying over night, I strongly suggest you book your rooms books asap, as the hotel tends to fill up quickly on fall weekends, as Disneyland operates on a reduced schedule that time of year.) I'll try to get a reservations number if any of you email me. B. The entire show is a "juried" show, so the quality of the teachers and vendors is very very high. C. There should be tickets available for people who want to just come and see the vendor areas. (More Info' on pricing is forthcoming... (i.e. I forgot to ask!) D. Classes in a nutshell... Jean has rounded up a very interesting and diverse group of Needle Artists, and many of the teachers who are at the other shows will be there, but the classes will be completely different than the other shows. Here's the lineup: 1. XStitchers and the Like: There will be a "wealth" of wonderful programs, Sampler lovers will be in love with the new fabrics that are a historical reproduction of original Sampler fabrics. There will be several sampler classes. There will be a new Dawn Lewis "Friends and Stitches" Sampler to be a companion piece for last years. Other Classes include (trying to read notes...): framing, and finishing techniques, Zweigart's New Fabrics line with Rosemary showing us more about them, Evenweave and Hardanger Classes, Christmas projects, Gold Thread work and a whole lot more.... 2. Doll Folks: Jean says they will have a "No Sew Doll" that is "darling!" It uses a punchneedle techniques. 3. Duplicate Stitch: The Waffleweaver people will be working with teachers to show off their new line of clothing, and patterns to match. 4. Rug Hooking: The lost art is coming back, and there will be an all day session on rug hooking and how to make your own rugs, while utilizing your scrap bags of old cloth and clothing. 5. Ribbon and Flower making: Candice Kling is going to be giving classes in how to manipulate and control ribbon, with the techniques of crushing, rushing, how to make those expensive flowers, in ribbon and fabric. 6. Fabric and Thread Collectors (isn't this "all of us?"): With the wealth of new fibers and threads on the market this year, there will be classes on the introduction of this fabric, and how utilize them into the new patterns and designs. Thread collectors.. Any way... there will be several classes on all the new threads in stitching fibers.. (be still my beating heart... and someone hold my wallet, please!) 7. Tatting: The lost art of tatting will be taught for those of you who lust for more tatting instruction. There will also be a class for the Beginner that will teach 2 shuttle tatting, and will make a wreath in class with a star pattern to take home. 8. Silk Ribbon Embroidery: Judith Montano will be showing the "Lost Art" of Silk Embroidery, and introducing a new line of acrylic embroidery ribbon. This (personally) is something I'm not going to miss. 9. Other Goodies.... in addition there will be classes and goodies including: Needlepoint, pulled thread work, quilting, crochet, knitting, drawn thread work, smocking and fine hand sewing, and knotless netting class to name a few... There will be prizes, special events on the vendor floor and the "biggest needlework shop in Orange County" all under one roof. One other thing... There will be a commemorative needlecase done in a 4 hour hand sewing class, that sounds "wonderful." Ok, you move quickly, you still have time to get a Self Address Stamped Business Size Envelope (attach 52 cents postage) to: I Love Needlework Fair, 836 B Southhampton Road, #285, Benicia, California 94510.
