*DOOM RED DOT SIGHT* Okay, here's another little add-on for all you DOOM junkies out there. Nothing spectacular, just a little thing I created for myself because I enjoy sniping almost more than clearing a room with a chaingun. For up close and personal encounters, it really won't help you much (but who cares, right?) Basically what this is is a RED DOT SIGHT... now remember that doesn't mean laser sight, it's just a little red dot the size of a pixel that is suspended in front of your view at approximately (depending on the weapon) the point of impact. I am assuming that the point of impact will be pretty much universal. I have found it to be true that the lead-slingers tend to have a point of impact a little to the left (a couple pixels) of the iron sights. For this reason, I have adjusted the dot to compensate. I take no responsibility for a misaligned sight. Unfortunately, because this is part of the current weapon's image, the red dot will fade as the room gets darker, as if it were physically part of you, not an illuminated image, so be ready to compensate for this. I have only added a red dot to the pistol, shotgun, and chaingun since the other weapons tend to either have a blast radius, or are fairly well self-aiming (within a certain area.) The installation is easy, just like most of the graphic-altering stuff out there. Unzip the files and put them with your DOOM.WAD (or, as I prefer, move the DOOM.WAD to the files) and type "REDIN" to insert the appropriate .GIF's. If you're paranoid about losing your original DOOM.WAD, you can back it up, although the program saves the original stuff. Just type "REDOUT" to restore your original DOOM.WAD. And just for those of you who care about this kind of stuff, I just extracted the original art from DOOM, and altered it with Photoshop in Windows. The hardest part was aligning the graphic back in the game, I think. Remember, when you're shooting the pistol, if you hold down the trigger, every shot after the first will stray a bit, like a real weapon, so when you're sniping, wait a little between shots and you'll hit your mark every time. Have fun, and if you find this little thing useful, drop me a line and let me know! Keep on DOOMing! Hoss hoss@kaiwan.com
