TRIP-WIRE ~~~~~~~~~~~ Copyright 1994 B&D Software Grass Roots (205)352-3113 FIDONet 1:3607/25 TRIP-WIRE is as easy to set up as all B&D Software door's are! You should, however be familiar with your BBS software and how it runs external programs or "doors". Also, you should be familiar with simple DOS commands like how to create a directory and how to write a simple batch file. A sample batch file is included in this package which should work with most BBS software with very little modification. The following files should have been in this ZIP package when you received it: DESC.SDI One line description of file DOOR.BAT Sample batch file for running door FILE_ID.DIZ Complete description using BBS standard COLOR.CTL X Control file to customize playing screen colors TRIPNTRC.ANS X Instructions for playing TRIP-WIRE REGISTER.FRM A handy form for registering TRIP-WIRE TRIPNTRO.ANS X Main Screen for TRIP-WIRE SYSOP.DOC These documents for installing TRIP-WIRE SCORES.ANS X Sample High Score ANSI file SCORES.ASC X Sample High Score ASCII file TRIPWIRE.CFG X Sample configuration for TRIP-WIRE TRIPWIRE.EXE X TRIP-WIRE main executable UPGRADE.BAT For use if upgrading from 1.x Those files followed by an "X" should NOT be deleted from the directory. Any others may be at your own discretion. Should you want to reset all scores you may delete TRIPWIRE.DAT and all users will start off new! Installing TRIP-WIRE on your system: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Create a Sub-directory under your DOORS directory (or where ever you have your external programs). Call this sub-directory TRIPWIRE (or any other name of your choice). Place all the files that were in this ZIP package in that sub-directory. Edit TRIPWIRE.CFG to reflect the following information: Line 1 > BBS Name Line 2 > SYSOP Name Line 3 > Door Donor's Name (if registered) Line 4 > Registration number Using the information for my BBS the TRIPWIRE.CFG would look like this: Grass Roots Bill Hicks B&D Software 1234567890 OR! You can delete the file TRIPWIRE.CFG and run TRIPWIRE.EXE locally and you will be prompted for all pertinent data. When you register the door just delete the old TRIPWIRE.DAT and re-run TRIPWIRE.EXE! Next you will need to edit the DOOR.BAT provided. Here is how it works quite simply put: Line 1 > Turn the echo off Line 2 > Change to the drive on which the door is located Line 3 > Change to the door directory Line 4 > Execute TRIPWIRE with the drive:\path\filename of the dropfile in the command line. If the dropfile is copied to the directory where TRIP-WIRE is executed then all you will need is its name. Line 5 > Change back to the drive the BBS is on Line 6 > Change to the BBS directory Line 7 > Exit the batch file Here is the one I use on Grass Roots (provided as the sample DOOR.BAT): ECHO OFF C: CD \MAX\DOORS\TRIPWIRE TRIPWIRE.EXE C:\MAX\DOOR.SYS C: CD \MAX EXIT NOTICE: Some BBS software revolts at using the "EXIT" at the end of the batch file. Create it as your BBS documents direct. For a DORINFOn.DEF, CALLINFO.BBS, or other drop file simple change the command line following TRIPWIRE.EXE to reflect the drive:\path\filename of the appropriate drop file. Bulletins will be created in the sub-directory where TRIP-WIRE is located. To move them to another directory create your DOOR.BAT file in the following manner: ECHO OFF C: CD \BBS\DOORS\TRIPWIRE TRIPWIRE.EXE C:\BBS\DOOR.SYS COPY SCORES.ANS C:\BBS\BULLS\SCORES.ANS COPY SCORES.ASC C:\BBS\BULLS\SCORES.ASC C: CD \MAX EXIT Maximus Sysops will need to also add a line which will MECCA their ANSI score file. TRIP-WIRE may be ran locally by simple typing TRIPWIRE.EXE without a Command line added. Upgrading from an earlier version ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Beginning with version 2.00 Trip-Wire allows for games to be saved and finished at a later time. This necessitates a new file structure for TRIPWIRE.DAT. In order to use version 2.00 or later. Be sure and either delete TRIPWIRE.DAT or run the UPGRADE.BAT which will delete the files which have been changed or are no longer necessary. Also beginning with version 2.00 both the Main Menu and the Playing screen are in the .EXE itself so the files TRIPMENU.ANS and TRIPWIRE.ANS are no longer used. Special Thanks ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We are proud to be able to extend a special thanks to all of the SysOps and BBS's listed in the BetaDist.BBS file. And we extend a very special thanks to Cheryl Mathison of the Yellow Submarine BBS both for her continual assistance in testing this door and for her creation of the Intro Screen! We hope that you and your callers enjoy TRIP-WIRE, and that you find it worthy of your support. Please read the file REGISTER.FRM for information on how to register your copy of TRIP-WIRE!
