Installing The Demo After you use expand the file you downloaded, start Windows. From the Program Manager activate the File menu and select the Run option. Enter the path for the program's SETUP file and click on the OK button. For example, if you expanded program files in a directory called c:\temp, you would enter: C:\TEMP\SETUP The setup program asks you whether you want to install the demo in the following directory: C:\AHDMSW6. If this is acceptable, click on the Continue button; otherwise enter a different directory. The setup program creates a group called Audio Help Demo with an icon for the following program: Audio Help Demo for Word 6.0. To start the program open the Audio Help Demo group and then double click on the icon for Audio Help Demo for Word 6.0. Running Audio Help Concurrently With Word After you start the demo you should start your Word for Windows program. Generally, you want Word for Windows and Audio Help for Windows to both appear on your screen at the same time. This usually involves resizing the Word for Windows program by dragging its lower edge up. Note: You cannot resize Word for Windows if it's maximized. If it's maximized and you need to resize it, start by clicking on its Restore button (the double arrows that appear in the top right corner of the Word for Windows screen). If Audio Help for Windows gets lost under other programs you are running, you can find it by holding down the ALT key while you repeatedly press the TAB key. The Main Screen After you press the Run Program button on the Copyright screen, the Main program screen appears. In the center of the Main screen is the Topics button. Press the Topics button to see a list of available audio help topics. After you select a topic the Main screen reappears and the audio help message begins to play. There are four buttons on the Main screen that you can use to control the audio message. From left to right they are: Rewind, Play, Pause, and Stop. Underneath these buttons is the audio scroll bar. By dragging the bar's box or by clicking on the bar's left and right buttons you can move to any point in the audio message. Note: It's recommended that you stop the audio help message before you use the audio scroll bar. Audio Help Index After you click on the Topics button on the Main screen a list of topics appears. You can select a topic by: 1. Entering a search phrase that highlights a topic on the topic list. You can then click on the OK button. 2. Scrolling through the topic list, highlighting the topic you want, and then clicking on the OK button. 3. Scrolling through the topic list, then double clicking on the topic you want. Following Audio Instructions While you are listening to a set of audio instructions you can click on the Word program and perform them. You must be certain, however, to activate the Word for Windows program by clicking on it before you attempt to perform any of the audio instructions. Volume Considerations Setting the proper volume for the audio help messages involves the following hardware and software considerations: 1. You need a properly installed 16-bit sound card to run the program; it does not work with 8-bit cards. 2. Your speakers or headphones must be connected to the appropriate jack on the soundcard; you will not hear anything if you make the connection to your CD-ROM drive. 3. Your soundcard might have a volume control built into it that you will need to adjust. 4. Your soundcard might also come with a software program that you will need to use to adjust the volume. 5. Your speakers or headphones might have volume controls that you will need to adjust. Note: You cannot adjust audio volume with the Audio Help for Windows program. Exiting The Program You can exit the program from the Copyright screen or from the Main screen; you cannot exit the program from the Audio Help Index screen. To exit the program double click on the button that appears in the top left hand corner of the program. If you don't have a mouse, press the ALT key and the SPACEBAR to open the Control menu, then press C for Close.
