There are five (5) good reasons why crash diets do not work! If you think these through, you will see that they are not only ineffective, but they are down right dangerous. -=| Crash Diets Aren't Permanent |=- ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ A number of crash diets are high in fat and low in carbohydrates do indeed produce an immediate weight loss, but the body is not designed to process only certain types of foods for an extended period of time. According to the Medical Society of New York, prolonged high-fat, low carbohydrate diets can contribute to kidney disease, ketosis, excess uric acid in the blood, disturbances of heart rhythm, loss of calcium, chronic fatigue and increased serum cholesterol. -=| Crash Diets Do Not Produce Fat Loss |=- ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ What is really lost on a fad diet is water. A property of a carbohy- drate is that it can retain three times its weight in fluid; if less than two ounces of carbohydrates are eaten per day the body is denied the ability to retain fluid and therefore loses weight - perhaps four to six pounds a week! -=| Crash Diets Lower Metabolism |=- ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ When caloric intake is drastically reduced, metabolism is altered. The body, which doesn't know the difference between the first day of a crash diet or the first day of a self inflicted famine, thinks it is starving. In self defense, it slows down, burning calories at a slower rate, making weight loss more difficult! -=| Crash Diets Cause Muscle Loss |=- ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ If too few calories are consumed, studies show that muscle loss will take place. This lost tissue comes from every organ in the body, in- cluding the heart, brain, liver, lungs, kidneys and intestinal tract. Since muscle is needed to burn fat, this whole process then becomes somewhat counter-productive! -=| Crash Diets Produce a Dieting Mentality |=- ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Crash dieting and "quick" weight loss schemes produce frustration for many people. The only winners are the people who profit from these diet gimmicks by promoting them. Crash diets are not only worthless, they are harmful. Remember, you didn't gain all that weight in 30 days, so what makes you think you can lose it that fast?
