More ramblings from Rich Stow about Lesson 2 - Alright, are you ready to start on that InterNet Address Book structure? I call it a structure because, even though it's all about the InterNet, there are different list files for different categories of addresses, many of them are included in the original 1ST-BETA.ZIP packet. Look in your 1ST\SCRIPTS\ subdirectory for a file called INTERNET.LST. If it is there, then you already have the necessary files. If they aren't, don't worry about it. I'm going to proceed as though you never got them until you tell me different. Okay, let's get out that text editor again and create a file called (you guessed it) INTERNET.LST. And by now you know all the procedures, so here are the lines to include in this file. Remember to replace _all_ of the "#" symbols with "@" symbols. TITLE=Internet Addresses SET API(53)=-1 SET API(347)=-1 BACKGROUND={name of .BIN background file} MME={name of MME file to be played} POSITION=8,0 Goto Main Menu, FILE=#API$(4)$$1502.LST #API$(11) BBS Main Address Book, FILE=#API$(14)#API$(10).LST ==============================, Archie (File Locator) Sites, FILE=$ARCHIE.LST FTP (Mail Server) Sites, FILE=$FTP-SER.LST FTP Transfer Sites, FILE=$FTP-SIT.LST Gopher (Resource Finder) Sites, FILE=$GOPHER.LST ==============================, Broadcast stations, FILE=$STATION.LST College newspapers, FILE=$COLLEGE.LST Computer magazines, FILE=$COMPUTR.LST Daily newspapers, FILE=$DAILY.LST News/Media services, FILE=$MEDIA.LST Newsletters, FILE=$NEWSLTR.LST Weekly newspapers, FILE=$WEEKLY.LST Other magazines, FILE=$MAGS.LST ==============================, Government offices, FILE=$GOV.LST ==============================, Rush Limbaugh, 70277.2502@compuserve.com ==============================, Mark Herring (Sparky), sparky@rodent.raider.net Rich Stow, richard.stow@seekers.com {Names Of InterNet}, {Inter.Net@Addresses.Of} {Friends Go Here}, {Inter.Net@Friends.Go.Here} ==============================, Remember that a comma goes after each name as you enter it. Save this file in your 1ST\SCRIPTS\ subdirectory. Now, if you think you've got the hang of it, I'll just send the text of each of the list files to you without the commentary. There will be thirteen additional .LST files, starting with the Archie Sites and ending with the Government Offices. If you have been keeping up with the lessons , after you complete these additional .LST files and store them in your 1ST\SCRIPTS\ subdirectory, your address book structure will be just as extensive as mine and just as easy to navigate. Have you tried it out, yet? I think you'll be very surprised when you do. Let me know how it works and when you are ready to start on a new project.
