-------------------------------------------------------------------- RENEWAVE V1.00 WIDEBETA-02 (1.00.wb2) NOTES ==================================================================== Copyright (C) 1995 by Lars Hellsten and MatrixSoft. All Rights Reserved. MatrixSoft Support BBS - (416)494-9237 First of all, I would just like to apologize for all the delays in releasing ReneWave. I won't give you excuses -- I simply got very lazy with it, had other things on my mind, and kept neglecting it. It's been in a closed beta test for approximately a year now, and I've been working on it for a year and a couple of months. After I got it to the point where it was 90% finished, I just had very little desire to finish it off. After I saw it was pretty much fully functional, it was really hard to get the desire to work on it back. Please note, that this release of ReneWave is a widebeta release (a beta version available to the general public). It will only be in widebeta until I get a chance to finish off the remaining things I've been planning to add, and fix any problems people report. ReneWave has already undergone extensive beta testing in a closed beta cycle by our beta team, but I cannot guarantee anything, and therefore, don't want to release an official 1.00 version until I'm sure everything is working, and there are no problems. The widebeta stage should only last only last a month or so. If you find any bugs, let me know as soon as possible if you find any. I'll be working on implementing the following features possibly right after the release of this widebeta. These planned features include (some will be registered-only features): o Warp-speed auto-UL/DL feature -- when -u or -d is specified on the commandline, it'll tell ReneWave to go into warp-speed upload or download mode. Warp speed mode bypasses all menus and prompts, and goes straight to bundling or receiving a mail packet. o More command line parameters to make ReneWave more flexible, more automated, and allow you to override your configuration. o Use of MSFOSSIL, MatrixSoft's own FOSSIL routines, written by Lars Hellsten. The reason I'm not using these at the moment, is that they haven't been tested thoroughly enough. o More sysop functions, including sysop functions from the status bar (currently not implemented do to inherent limitations of FKFOSSIL). o RIP graphics support. o Add a toggle to allow downloading of mail packets to NOT subtract time from the user's account. o Addition of a full file attach system, so users can attach files to messages. Possibly even the ability to run the files through an integrity/virus check before attaching them. o Miscellaneous enhancements, speed improvement, etc. o Possibly ports to other BBS packages, maybe even a generic version for DOOR.SYS and JAM/Squish BBSes ... the possibiliites are wide. o Any other suggestions I get from you guys ... ;) The fact that this is a widebeta release also gives me a reason to give people discounts for early registrations. For a limited time, until January 31st, registrations will be on sale, for just $10.00 US, or $12.00 CDN!!! (Many bulletin generator and file list authors charge this much, or more, for something that would take 30 minutes to program!) Starting February 1st, registration will go back up to the usual price, $12.00 US and $15.00 CDN. Please note, that any registrations postmarked before January 31st, which I receive after that date will still be valid. Which is still a very reasonable price for a door of this magnitude, all things considered. If you think I deserve more, for whatever reason, hey, send me as much extra as you want, and I'll be glad to accept that too ... ;) Registration grants you your own personal ReneWave registration code, use of any registered-only features, and the use of any future gamma releases. Between official releases, I will likely be releasing gamma versions in the future. These will only be available to registered users, and not the general public. (You'll have to FREQ them with a password from my system, or download them from my BBS though.) A notice via netmail (likely routed) will be sent to any registered users who're in the same networks we are, of any gamma releases. Please note - The registration discount ONLY applies to non- commercial registrations. Commercial registrations remain at the regular price, $20.00 US and $25.00 CDN. If you have any comments/suggestions, please feel free to contact me with one of the methods listed in RENEWAVE.DOC.
