BTcreate/BTsource features list


BTsource and BTcreate are designed to create and maintain DDF (dictionary) 
and Btrieve files. BTsource creates and maintains the source information 
necessary to describe the Btrieve file you want to create while BTcreate 
uses that information to create the files.
BTsource contains all the information necessary to use both programs as on-
line help. Be sure to read all the screens shown by the "About" function 
from the main menu of BTsource as well as the F1 and F2 help screens.


C-Soft, Inc. recommends that you BACKUP any existing DDFs that you intend 
to access with BTcreate.

The following is a list of features:

1- Create and initialize dictionary files if not already present.
2- Create and maintain description information (source information).
3- Create Btrieve files using the source information.
4- Print a complete file layout (with or without field notes) using LPT1.
5- Keep track of multiple groups (based on application ID) of multiple file 
layouts.
6- Add application IDs to list by editing BTAPPIDS.TXT with a text editor.
7- Keep track of multiple versions of a given file in a given application 
group.
8- Create Btrieve files from the BTcreate interface or via its command line 
parameters (invoke BTcreate with -? or /? for details).
9- Create source information for documentation only.(may be layouts of non-
Btrieve files in this case).
10-Duplicate a complete file layout by incrementing the version number of an 
existing file layout (useful during development while file layouts are 
still dynamic).
11- Centralize creation and maintenance of source information for 
consistency and security while creation of files is performed by a program 
(BTcreate) with only read ability as far as source information is 
concerned.
12- Create "C" header files by selecting an application; if header file
specified already exists, you may select to overwrite it or append to it.
