Moreover, IBM won't bother by that time. IBM is not a > prosperous company, and there's only so long even an ex-juggernaut such > as Big Blue can sink money into what is inevitably a niche product. well, i don't quite agree on the prosperous part. while they might not be microsoft or intel, they made 2.3 million last quarter. this is hardly enough to make a difference in a multi-billion dollar corporation, but it puts renewed confidence in the board with their new CEO, and the shareholders in their company. OS/2 is a bigger seller than most people think. Almost all current OS/2 people will upgrade to Warp. In addition, alot of people need 32 bit now, and can't wait for something that might be too little, too late (we're talking about win95, oc! :D) once win95 comes out, i believe Warp will lost a substantial base, but many people have seen mickeysoft's tricks on IBM by holding out on WinNT, figuring people would want to wait for NT. Well, some of these people are going to Warp because it's good and it's here. I believe IBM will stop making major upgrades on Warp if Chicago is as good as everyone says it is. But, Warp serves IBM's purpose for now.. (my opinion here, so no major flames.. :D) > if you have an urge to try something new in the meantime - try LINUX :) > while that recommendation might come as a suprise to everyone after my > 'diatribes' against it, i DO find it lots of fun, and great for a > personal internet box. i am very sorry about this, but i couldn't find an answer anywhere else: suppose i have a slip account with an address. how can i use InterNIC to make an alias for my current address (because i know it can be done). also, how can i make it so people can dial in? Who is doing this? seems perfectly illogical to me.. the betas are not full release versions, so people might get very frustrated with win95 because of a buggy beta and not get the final release version. two more likely problems with this solution are with the money ms gets. not charging full price for the betas, ms will lose a bundle of money it could make with the full release. if it offers the release free for beta owners, it's losing a hell of a lot more. if it offers it at full price or slightly discounted, alot of people will be content with the beta.. > campbell@fox.nstn.ca / Exams (x'ams), n.
