FORUM: Private E-Mail HOST: LEADING DATE: Feb-15-95 0:19am MSG: 284 PVT FROM: Digestifier TO: Dbn SUBJECT: Phish Digest #602 úÿ(Continued from last message) Trey as he entered the Flynn theater, and then waited in line so we were front row for the show at Club Toast. Everyone on stage blew my mind...Trey, Fishman and Mike of course were my highlights but the whole band had equal merit....Dave "The Truth" Grippo, M. Ray and Don Glasgo all left me speechless...I couldn't stop dancin' and in between sets a phellow phish.netter, Erika Smart, my friend Brent and I played a "human drum jam" (Erika, by the way, IS the human drum). 2nd set--MIKE showed up. There was even a vocal jam towards the end. I saw videotaping -- does anyone know if there is a video about? Anyone with tapes of this show, PLEASE e-mail me as I have lots to offer. WOW! I'm sorry this is so incoherent but my mind is still in a jumble. M. Ray was right - 7 to Neon, SPACE IS THE PLACE!! Sharin the review, Benjy benjy@plato.simons-rock.edu (Hi Erika!) You see Phish is not _your_ band, although Amen. yet another ex-newbie who forgets how THEY accidentally stumbled upon Phish. The only ones who can claim credit for Phish's greatness are in the band. It was a positive note, but it contained some erroneous content that I just want to clear up. God Street Wine is a great band that hails from NYC. They formed around six years ago. I urge you to go see them at bars or theaters around the country. Their newest release is "$1.99 Romances" on the Geffen label. As to the type of music they play, it real FUNKY with an emphasis on jamming, vocal harmonies, and improvisation. Their music, however, is probably not "biker style" as poop suggests. Rather it sounds more like "white man's funk" with incorporations of everything from jazz to reggae. Poop is correct in saying Steely Dan is a major influence to the band...So are many other bands that have influenced our beloved Phish. Phish, however, is not one of their influences, but one of their cousins....their bigger cousin. Richard "Rick" Leiby might have had something to do with that blurb, after all. When Phish's DWD video winds up in the magnificently erudite "Beavis and Butthead," Lord knows where the hell Phish will be sighted next. If Miller Genuine Draft comes out with a commercial with "Julius" in the background, I think it will be safe to say that this has all been wonderful, but Phish is way the fuck on their way.. mm>Oh, by the way, Charlie: not only do I _know_ you read the mm>Style section of mm>the Post, but I also know that that is the section you keep on mm>top of the mm>magazine rack, by the toilet, for a more _intimate_ read.
