SVGA Mah Jongg Tile Set Description This File : SHIELDS.TXT Tile Set Name : SHIELDS.TL Subject : More shields from the days when knighthood flowered. Date : July 22, 1994 Created by : Tom Boothby 2202 SE Tenino Portland, OR 97202 (503) 238 1443 Description: This tile set consists of suits as in the original Mah Jongg set. Suit Purpure, suit Vert, suit or, the Scots suit, the First Family suit (wild cards) and the Merlin suit (wild cards). My early efforts in tile making included a set of arms, but I was careless and did not keep a list of the names. On this set, I was careful not only to get the names right but to assign colors consistent with the heraldic code. Coloring for arms was divided into three categories: tinctures, metals and furs. I have not dealt with the furs here. The tinctures are azure (blue), gules (red), purpure (purple), vert (green) and sable (black). The metals are or (gold) and argent (silver). Azure is described by one as being dark sapphire or cobalt blue (121); Gules, vermillion (56); Purpure, purple lake (235); Vert, emerald (39); Sable, lamp black (46); Argent, paper white (251); and, Or, yellow ochre (85). My color knowledge is limited to red, white and blue so I had to assign certain colors on the color palette to produce these colors. After each color is the number of the color that I used. I would really appreciate being set straight on the correct colors. Suit Purpure Suit Vert Suit Or 1. Thomas, Lord Clifford 11. de Bryan 21. de Lacy 2. Cobham 12. Montagu 22. All the Knights of the Round Table have attributed arms but there is little agreement among the heralds as to a definitive list. Adam was given a red (gules) and Eve, a plain silver (argent). Cain's is quartered and labeled (first son). Abel's is quartered. Satan's had three frogs.
