README.TXT for TextPad
======================

Thank you for choosing to evaluate TextPad.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    TextPad is available in 16 and 32-bit editions.

    16-bit Edition:                       32-bit Edition:
        o 386SX CPU with 4MB RAM              o 486SX CPU with 12MB RAM
        o 1MB free disk space                 o 1MB free disk space
        o Windows 3.1 in 386                  o Windows NT 3.1 or
           enhanced mode                         Windows 3.1 with Win32s

INSTALLATION:

    In the following, replace "nn" with "16" or "32", depending
    on the edition of TextPad that you are installing.  You can
    install both editions into the same directory.

    From Floppy Disk:
        1) Start a DOS session.
        2) Type "A:" to make the floppy disk your current drive.
        3) Type "INSTALL nn", or "INSTALL nn drive:directory".
           (The first option will install to C:\TEXTPAD.)

    From a ZIP File:
        1) Unzip into a new directory, with PKUNZIP 2.04g or later.
        2) Move CTL3DV2.DLL or CTL3D32.DLL to your Windows system
           directory.
        3) Move TXTPAD.PIF to your Windows directory (16-bit only).
        4) Add TXTPADnn.EXE to a Program Manager group.

    There is no need to modify your search path.

    To enable TextPad's DDE capabilities, you can use REGEDIT to merge
    the TXTPADnn.REG file, but you must edit it first to give the correct
    path to the TextPad executable.  It assumes that your installation
    directory is C:\TEXTPAD.  See the online help for more information.

DRAG AND DROP:

    OLE2 drag and drop is only available in the 16-bit edition, and
    only if you already have OLE2 installed.  Sorry, but the OLE2 files
    are too big to distribute as shareware, and are not implemented at
    all for NT 3.1.  Local drag and drop is available, but scrolling
    has not been implemented.  Registered users will receive full OLE2
    drag and drop functionality.

REGISTRATION:

    If you make use of TextPad you must register it.  Registered users
    will receive a copy of the latest version for NT 3.5, which is also
    Windows '95 ready, along with the Win32s and OLE2 files necessary
    for running in 32-bit mode on Windows 3.1.

    Click the Register button on the About dialog box for details.
