SPEAKER ENCLOSURE CALCULATOR VERSION 1.0 UNREGISTERED Written by D.A. Harpster This little program will calculate a nice sounding enclosure for all types of dynamic speakers. The good thing about it is that you don't need a PhD in acoustics to use it. Plus, it's cheap. All you need to use this program are the specifications for your speaker. The specifications you will need are: Box Resonance: This is the variable which determines the curve of bass response. Experimenting with numbers between .5 and 1.5 will produce normal sized enclosures. Lower numbers will provide even responses throughout all frequencies, but higher numbers will emphasize the higher bass frequencies. Resonance Magnification (Qts): This is the ability of a speaker to reach its maximum sound output level. A range from .4 to .6 is normal. Compliance (Vas): This shows the stiffness of the speaker's suspension. It is the volume of air which equals the stiffness of the speaker. Most of the time, larger speakers have higher compliances than smaller speakers. Resonance Frequency: This is the natural frequency of a speaker when operating outside an enclosure. Diameter of Duct: This is the inside diameter of the tube which is placed in ported enclosures to increase bass efficiency. This number is only used for ported enclosures. Number of Ducts: This is simply the number of ducts you desire in your ported enclosure. NOTE: If the program's results for duct length seem irregular, the speaker may not be suited for a ported enclosure. I hope you like this program, however, it is NOT free. If you find it useful and would like to register it, you may do so by sending me $10. In return, I will send you the latest registered version of the program. Feel free to copy this program and give it to friends, other Bulletin Board Systems and Online Services. Please make sure all of these files are put into an archive: SPEAKER.EXE - The actual unregistered program SPEAKER.TXT - This file you are reading SPEAKER.ICO - The Windows icon for the program Your comments on this program are welcome.
