About Hooked 2.0 - Internet for Windows Well, the day has finally come. We have a release of the 2.0 client with the Web browser! And it works -- in the office anyway. As an intrepid Beta tester you can help us iron out the wrinkles before we announce the release. Special Note: If you downloaded disk1 and disk2, check their sizes. If you do not have the correct number of bytes in the files on your pc, something went wrong with the download and you should retry. Disk1.exe = 1408547 bytes Disk2.exe = 1298362 bytes Although all of the features of the old client as well as the new web features are working here at the hub, we are calling this a Beta. We need your help in testing it and reporting any problems; we still have to nail down any tricky differences from Pipeline on the Unix side, or between your pc environment and our pc environment, that may cause problems. Issues we're currently working on 1. There is a new Windows IRC client which is not yet making a good connection. The original IRC client under Hooked Information is working fine. 2. The Talk button is working the same as it was, which is to say NOT. Pipeline is reporting their own talk woes now. The talk implementation in Hooked Info...Request Talk is still fine, but it still doesn't see between hosts. 3. X.25 (Compuserve Network) is not supported directly, although you can rlogin and use the appropriate Compuserve number to get around this. Pipeline will have to compile the 142dh-style feature into a release for us. 4. Newsgroups still reference the Pipeline groups in the Bay Area list. To get the latest news database, download the newsgrp.00x files as under 142, and then exit hooked and delete the files hooked\system\news\news.mdb and news.ldb That database will be auto-regenerated at startup. 5. The default dialup number is a New York number. The correct local numbers are in the list, so just double check before connecting. This seems to be compiled in, unfortunately.
