Although HyperMail! has been designed to be as user friendly as possible, there is no substitute for reading the documentation; especially if you're new to echo and NetMail. The best thing to do is to take your time, and have the documentation handy when going through all of the options. You may want to consider printing it out, or having it open in another window if you are running a multi-tasking program. If this is not your first time setting up a mail tosser/scanner, this should be fairly simple. Context-Sensitive Help ====================== A friendly context-sensitive help system has been added into the setup program. When setting up Wildcat!, you will remember in Makewild the [F1] help system. A similar help system has been provided in the setup program. If you should get stuck somewhere while setting up HyperMail!, you may hit [F1] at any option and a help screen will pop up. You may press [F1] a second time to display a list of help topics you may choose from. Simply highlight the bar on the desired topic and press [ENTER] Once you've finished viewing the help information, you may press [ESC] to return you to the previous configuration screen. HMSETUP - Setup and Configuration ================================= HMSETUP.EXE is the setup program used to configure HyperMail!, including echos, nodes, and databases. The program should be executed from the HyperMail! directory while HyperMail! is not processing mail. Note: Hypermail setup procedure is one the easiest and simplest I have ever worked with. So just follow my example step by step and you will be fine. Before we begin, create the following directory on your desired drive, all the examples in this documentation are using drive C: C:\HYPER C:\HYPER\SWAP C:\HYPER\IN-TEMP C:\HYPER\OUT-TEMP C:\HYPER\OUTECHO Unarchive or decompress the HMAIL100.ARJ or HMAIL100.ZIP into C:\HYPER, change to the directory C:\HYPER and type HMSETUP to begin our installation. Specify the main directory to your Wildcat! v4.0 BBS when prompted, example used in this documentation is C:\WC40. Now you should see the above screen. Note: If you do not have EMS memory in your computer, you can then set that option to N for NO, but the more memory you have in your PC, the better. Please do not advertise your BBS in this option, as this is only a space for mail tosser advertisement not your BBS and you may be in violation of FidoNet policy if you advertise your BBS here. Comment or description: This is the full name or description for this Group. Type of mail in this conference: This should always be echomail because all the areas or conferences under this Group will be echomail conferences. Is echo a passthrough area: Most of the time this option will be N for NO, unless you a re a HUB that passes mails to other Nodes and you do not want this particular Group imported into your own BBS conferences. Address to use for this area: This should be your address that you will use for this Network Group, in case of those that have multiple or other addresses from their other Private Networks. If you press enter key on this option, a list of all your defined Node addresses will pop-up for you to select the appropriate address for this Network Group. Origin Line: This will be the default origin line that will be used for this Network Group. If you press enter key on this option, a list of all your defined Origin Lines will pop-up for you to select the appropriate origin line for this Network Group. Seen-By Addresses: This should be your address that will be used for this Network Group, in case of those that have multiple or other addresses from their other Private Networks. If you press enter key on this option, a list of all your defined Node addresses will pop-up for you to select the appropriate address for this Network Group. Seen-By addresses is used by the Mail tosser to see if the mail has arrived at your system once, so that it will not be imported as duplicates, or just for the tosser to see which route the mail has travelled before it arrived at your system. It's mostly used to combat dupes and for debug purposes. This address should be as the same selected for "Address to use for this area:" option. An example of my universal origin line is seen on line 7 above, I use this origin line for my FidoNet Group and other Network that does not require me to append their Network name to the beginning of this tagline. BBS and you will have to create 200 areas here also, each area for one echo conference and match each with your Wildcat! BBS conference number. Important: In the option "Export Echo to:" should have your HUB or Node toggled, because you want to echo or export your Echomails conference to your HUB or your downlink (Node). When you press enter on this option and a list of your HUBs or Nodes will pop-up, please select or toggle any of them that this echomail area should be exported to. If you have not created any HUB or Node information you can leave this option alone for now and when you go to Main Menu you can select "Node Configuration" to create or define all your HUBs or Nodes information and then come back to this option to just toggle the appropriate one or which of the HUB/Node you want this specific area messages exported to. You must do this for all your defined echomail areas, because if you do not select or toggle this option for any HUB/Node, then none of your message will ever get exported out of your BBS or none of your downlink will ever get any from you to pick-up. Better remember this option. You should also set the option "Hide echo hidden in echo lists:" to N for NO, because you want any of your downlink Node to be able send see this echo in the list of echomail areas available to them so they can be able to send an AREAFIX message to your system for this areas when they need to. Note: You should and can have several Echomail areas and conferences defined, based on your need, but each area defined must have a different echo area name as seen in FIDONET.NA and different Wildcat! BBS conference number as defined in your MAKEWILD. A NOTE ABOUT DUPEMAIL and BADMAIL AREAS ======================================= If for any reason you need to save any duplicates (dupes) echomail and or bad echomails that arrives at your system for further investigation or verifications, you will need to create or define each individual echo area as we have define above previously for echomails, and the "Echo area name:" will be DUPEMAIL nad BADMAIL respectively, and the option "Type of Mail in this Conference:" should be set to DupeMail or BadMail respectively for any of those two areas. Only each area of DUPEMAIL and BADMAIL should be created. If you do not need any Dupemails and Badmails to be save and instead to be trashed and deleted before mails are imported into your Wildcat! database, then you should and MUST not create any of this area mentioned above. Hypermail! will then delete and trash or discarded any dupemails (duplicate messages) or any badmails (damaged or grundged messages) that might arrived at your system instead of saving them. I did not create any sample echo areas or show any examples for the above two areas (DUPEMAIL & BADMAIL) because I don't think any Sysop will want to import dupes or bad mails into their message database anyway, right?. None of the two areas mentioned above is required as per explanation above, and if you do not create them, then any message that is bad or duplicate will be tossed away and deleted automatically without you seeing them at all. I am just providing the above information for those who might need more explanation on this subject or in case you need the option in future. HUB or UPLINK: This is where, system, or whom you will be getting all your echomails from, and this will be the same person or system you will be sending back your replies exported from your board. DOWNLINK or NODE: This is someone, system who will be picking-up mails from your system for their own board, if you will act as a HUB. All his replies will be uploaded to you and you in turn will upload all his replies and yours to your Uplink or HUB. Note: Sometimes or most of the time, the term Node is used commonly for both Uplink and Downlink (HUB/NODE). And that is why you see this category labelled Node Configuration. Now let's go thru each option settings: Netmail Address: This is the address for the HUB or the Node you are defining. When you press enter on this option a little pop-up box will appear for you to input the address as seen on next page. Sysop Name: This is the name of the Sysop of that system for identification. Your AKA to use with this node: This is your address that you will use for this HUB or Node, if you have multiple address, press enter on that option and a pop-up screen of lists of all your define address will be shown to select the appropriate one for that HUB or Node as seen on next pages. Netmail Flags: Should always be set to DIRECT for your HUB/Uplink, so that all the mails exported will be send directly to your HUB when you poll (call) his/her system. But if this definition is for your Downlink or Node you should then set this to HOLD, so that all that system mails will be put on Hold on your system and when he/she poll (call) you, the mails will be released to him/her. Default Archiver: Should be the compressor/uncompressor you will use for this system. If you press enter key on that option, your lists of defined archivers should pop-up for you to select the appropriate one to be used. Default Mail packet Type: This is should and MUST always be set to TYPE 2+ for conformity with other Mail Tossers. Allow auto new area creation: Should always be Y so that if you request new echo area it will be added to the Hypermail! database for you automatically as Passthru, you will then go into the settings to to make it none passthru in the Area Configuration section and the mails will then started importing into your Wildcat! conference after you have also matched it to the appropriate conferences. Default group for new areas: Should be the Network Group you want to be the default for this system so that each time you go to create or define an echo area in Area Configuration for this system, it will be the default area in it. Only one default area is allowed but you can change it on area to area basis. Is this node passive (inactive): Should normally be N for NO. Unless you want to temporarily disable this system, in that case it will be Y for YES. Groups this node has access to: Should be the Network Group or Groups you want this system to have access on your system. If you press enter on this option, the lists of all your Groups already defined will pop-up for you to toggle the appropriate Group or Groups this system belongs to. Remember you can have a HUB or Node belongs to more than one Group, just toggle all the appropriate Group for this system and all the toggled Groups should appear in that option. This Node's security level: This is the security level you will assign to this system. Just make sure the security level here is higher than the one in each areas in Group definitions under "Minimum AreaMgr Security Level" option. As you can see in our example, the security level seen above is 100 while the one in Group Definition is 25. But each "Minimum AreaMgr Security Level" in Area Configuration is 100 as taken from the above settings. This option is used for security purposes for the HUBs and if you are not a HUB, you should not have to worry about it much. AreaMgr Password: This is the password you will give to your Downlink for them to use it for requesting echo areas and changes to their settings automatically on your system. Select the desired Group and press enter key and your AREAS.BBS should be importing or exporting based on what option you have selected. When finished with your setup procedures to test it, just change to your Hypermail! directory e.g. C:\HYPER and type HYPER (no need for any command line parameter) and if there is no error message, then you know your setup is correct. If there is an error message, review your setup again and correct your mistakes.
