The NW Comm driver set has been created to allow those with certain Rockwell chipsets to access America Online's multiplayer online games from the Windows version of America Online software. Modems with the Rockwell chipsets cause the Windows 3.1 Comm.Drv to enter an infinite loop when WAOL tries to transfer the communication session to the online games. ** Warning ** Other vendors may have already installed replacement drivers for their own hardware and software needs. Replacing these drivers with the NW Comm driver set could render the applications or hardware inoperative. This is for your protection, if you experience any difficulties with the NW Comm driver set copy the System.nw file back to System.ini to restore your original settings. ** End Warn ** Installation : 1) Copy the NWComm.drv and NWVcd.386 files to the \Windows\System directory on your hard drive. 2) Copy the System.ini file found in your \Windows directory to System.Nw 3) Use any standard text editor to open the System.ini file found in your \Windows directory a) Locate the "comm.drv=" line in the [boot] section b) Modify this line to read "comm.drv=nwcomm.drv" c) Locate the "device=*vcd" or "device=vcd.386" line in the [386Enh] section d) Modify this line to read "device=nwvcd.386" ( Note : You Must Remove The * from The Device Line) 4) Save the System.ini file 5) If you are currently in Windows you must exit and restart to activate the changes to your System.ini file.
