/***************************************************************************** SoundWorks 1.2 Copyright © 1994 - 1995, Michael K. Schumell All Rights Reserved ****************************************************************************** README.TXT *****************************************************************************/ INTRODUCTION OS/2 Warp for Windows has a peculiar bug: system sounds drop out of seamless Win-OS2 sessions shortly after they have started. Even with the recently released FixPak, Warp still refuses to play the Windows Exit sound during a seamless session. SoundWorks fixes these problems. UPGRADING If you are upgrading from an earlier version, you need to first remove the currently installed version of SoundWorks and restart Win-OS2. INSTALLATION 1. Start Control Panel. 2. Start the "Drivers" applet. 3. Click the "Add..." button. 4. Select "Unlisted or Updated Driver" and click "OK". 5. When prompted for a disk, specify the name of the drive or directory containing the bundled files, OEMSETUP.INF, CTL3DV2.DLL, SNDWORKS.DRV, and click "OK". 6. Select "SoundWorks" and click "OK". 7. Restart Win-OS2. (Note that Control Panel will modify your Windows' SYSTEM.INI file.) CONFIGURATION The next six steps apply only to users of Warp and the FixPak. 1. Start Control Panel in a seamless Win-OS2 session. 2. Start the "Drivers" applet. 3. Select "SoundWorks". 4. Click "Setup...". 5. Place an X in the "FixPak" box. 6. Click "OK" and restart the Win-OS2 session. With some sound cards, a Win-OS2 session may not close properly. If you experience this problem, use the following procedure. 1. Close all Windows programs; if possible, end the Win-OS2 session. 2. Start Control Panel in a seamless Win-OS2 session. 3. Start the "Drivers" applet. 4. Select "SoundWorks". 5. Click "Setup...". 6. In the "Potential problem-causing modules" listbox, no entries should appear. If any entries are shown, the Win-OS2 session may not close correctly. Select each entry and click the "Add..." button. (Note that SoundWorks cannot be configured if system sounds are not already functioning. Therefore you must restart your Win-OS2 session after first- time installation.) VERSION HISTORY 1.2 New: Add 'Exit sound only' option for FixPak users to avoid overhead of other features. 1.1 Bug: Seamless Win-OS2 session does not close. Fix: Add user-controled "Window Finder". Bug: Incorrect return value possible in message filters. Fix: Correct code. 1.0a Bug: Norton Desktop 3.0's Quick Access menu not responding properly to right-mouse button under DOS+Windows. Fix: Detect type of session; do not install message filters if not a seamless Win-OS/2 session. Bug: Previously installed message filters not called; some CD-ROM and modem applications not functioning correctly. Fix: Add code to call previously installed message filters.
