Installing Lost 'N' Found To install Lost 'N' Found use INSTALL.BAT to install. You will be prompted for the drive letter of your OS/2 directory, and the drive letter you want Lost 'N' Found installed on. II. Description of Lost 'N' Found Lost 'N' Found is a file search utiliy for OS/2. It uses a fully-graphical user interface. This utility will allow you to scan drives looking for a particular filename or directory. Once you find what you are looking for, you have several optio ns. You can view basic information about the file. You can view & change the file attributes. You can copy, rename, delete, and move the file. And you can edit and print the file (NOTE: not all of these features are available with the SHAREWARE version) . -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= III. About Lost 'N' Found: Shareware version vs. Registered version In the shareware version you can: Search local drives for a file or directory. View basic file information. View (but not change attributes). And Copy and delete files (and empty directories) In the registered version you can: Search all available drives (local and remote). View basic file information. View and change attributes. Copy, Rename, Move and delete files. And. Registering Information To register Lost 'N' Found, please send a check or money order for $10 to: Melissa N. Mortellaro 3803-G Logans Ferry Rd. Pittsburgh, PA 15239. Also please send either a mailing address or an email address where I can send you the registered version. If you send an email address, I will UUENCODE a copy to you. If you send a mailing address, I will send you the registered version on a 3.5 inch diskette. When you register, you receive the full-featured version of Lost 'N' Found and all future versions and updates. All registered user proceeds go to the creation of future OS/2 programs, from which registered users will be informed on progress and status. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= V. How to use Lost 'N' Found To find a particular file or directory: Please type in the space provided the text to search for. (NOTE: Wildcards are allowed). (DO NOT type :\) If you are searching for a directory, type the name of the first subdirectory without :\ (further subdirectories wil l use a '\'). Next select the drive(s) to search. Click on OK to begin search. The number of entries found will appear in the lower right hand corner of the window. You will be notified with the search is complete. To see more file options: A list of all matching items will appear. You can see more options by double clicking on a particular item. Once you double click. You can see basic file information such as filename, user-defined file-types (if one has been associated) , last modification date, and last modification time. You will also have several other file options available. OPTIONS: View and Change attributes: to see file associated attributes, click on View and Change Attributes. Those attributes with a check-mark indicate the attribues assigned to that file. To change an attribute (not available in SHAREWARE ve rsion), click on the attribute you want to change, then click on CHANGE. Copy a file: To copy a file, click on Copy File. You will be prompted for a destination path and filename. If you do not indicate a path, the current path of that filename will be used. If you don't type in a filename, the current f ilename will be used. Move a file: (Not available in SHAREWARE VERSION). To move a file, click on Move File. You will be prompted for a destination path and filename. This is the same as the Copy File command, except the file will be removed from the orig inal location. Rename a file: (Not available in SHAREWARE VERSION). To rename a file, click on Rename File. You will be prompted for a destination path and filename. This command is treated the same way as the Move File option. Delete a file: To delete a file, click on delete. You will be prompted for confirmation. If you choose YES, the file will be deleted. If ou choose NO, you will be returned to file options. You can also delete empty subdirectories. (NOTE: only empty subdirectories can be deleted, and they can be deleted regardless of associated file attributes.) Edit a file: (Not available in SHAREWARE VERSION). To edit a file, click on Edit File. The OS/2 System Editor (E.EXE) will be envoked. You can edit and save your file. Print a file: (Not available in SHAREWARE VERSION). To print a file, click on Print File. You will be given a list of available printers, click on one to select. You can also change additional print options by clicking on Options. Click on OK and your file will print to the selected printer. NOTE: You can begin a new search at any time by going back to the main Lost 'N' Found screen and clicking on New Search. To Exit Lost 'N' found, click on Exit at the main screen. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= VI. Error messages and troubleshooting. When searching: [Search drive not specified]: You have not selected a drive to search. [No matching entries found]: This means that the text you asked to search for was not found. Besure you DO NOT have :\ in front of your search text. Check your spelling and syntax. Make sure the correct drives are selected. Viewing File Information: There is not File Type associated: This is a user-defined file-type. If you associate a file type when you save the file, this will appear. When choosing a file option: Option does nothing: Do you have the registered version or the shareware version? Rename File, Move file, Print File and Edit File are not available in SHAREWARE VERSION. [This file does not exist]: Have you previously deleted the file? When Viewing File Attributes: Cannot change file attributes: Do you have the registered version or the shareware version? Attributes in the SHAREWARE VERSION can be viewed but not changed. [The attribute could not be changed]: Check to see if you are trying to change the attributes on a directory - directory attributes cannot be changed. Also, if this is a network file, network security restrictions override file attributes be sure you have permission to change file attributes. When Coping, Moving, and Renaming: [This operation cannot be performed on a directory]: Directories cannot be copied, renamed, or moved. [The program could not complete this operation]: This happens if you try to copy, more, or rename a file to a destination the same as the source. You may also get this message depending on your file attributes and/or network permissions. If your destination filename is not in a proper format (check to see if it is an HPFS of FAT drive). Also, if the destination filename exists, check the attributes on the destination file. When trying to delete: [The program could not complete this operation]: Check file attributes. Check to see if this is a directory, and check to see if the directory is empty. If this is a network file, check your network permissions. [This directory could not be deleted]: Check to make sure directory is empty. Check to see if the directory is hidden. If this is a network directory, check network permissions When trying to print: [There are no printers available]: Check to see if you have any available printer. Check printer to see if printers are properly attached, or properly setup. [An error has occured....please check the printer]: The job was not sent to the queue, check to see if the printer is off-line, out of paper, or has a paper jam.
