3.5 Disk Labeler Copyright 1995 by Gerald D. Schleicher This program is distributed as shareware. A registered version on a 3.5 inch disk may be ordered for a fee of $20. It will be sent via the U.S. mail . The shareware version will function fully for a trial period of one month. Thereafter it will only allow an order form to be displayed and printed. The unregistered version of this program may be freely distributed by any means without the author's permission. However, users who intend to continue use of the program are expected to purchase the registered version. REQUIREMENTS: Windows 3.0 +, a laser printer. Note: Good printing alignment is impossible to insure on an inkjet printer because they do not have guides to center the narrow label sheet for a manual feed. Otherwise an inkjet would work just fine. INSTALLATION: No special installation is required. After placing "disklblr.exe" in the desired directory (usually "windows") it can be RUN from the Program Manager (select FILE, then RUN. Use BROWSE to find "disklblr.exe"), or the File Manager (highlight "disklblr.exe", then select FILE, then RUN). To add this program to your "APPLICATION" or other window so it can be run by simply clicking on its icon, do the following: 1) Open the desired window by clicking on it twice. 2) From the Program Manager select FILE, select NEW, select "Program Item", then click on the OK button. 3) Fill in the boxes shown: "Description": make up any name for the program. This will appear under the icon. "COMMAND LINE": type in the full path and file name. For example, this would be c:/windows/disklblr.exe" if your hard drive was lettered "c", and the program was in the "windows" directory. "WORKING DIRECTORY": Fill in the path without the file name (leave off "disklblr.exe"). PROGRAM PURPOSE: Allows the user to print on those little packets of folded-up labels which are included in the boxes of 3.5 inch disks. 16 different brands are supported. PROGRAM OVERVIEW: The program consists of a main window for selecting a label type, and a second window for filling in and printing the labels. PROGRAM DETAILS: Main Window. -- The lefthand columns contains a list of the brand names supported. As you scroll through this the sample displays in the center and righthand columns will change to reflect the current selection. The middle display shows the number of label lines and the approximate proportions. The righthand display shows the number and layout of labels on the full sheet. After highlighting the desired label brand, choose the "LABEL CHOICE MADE" button to go to the next screen. Choose "EXIT PROGRAM" to leave the program. The "ORDER FORM" button allows you to fill in and print off an order form. Secondary Window -- This window comes up after a label choice is made in the main window. "1. Select Label to work on" (top, lefthand column): Below this text heading is a box with horizontal numbering. Use the arrow keys to highlight the number (by position) of the label you wish to fill in, modify or view. The position numbers are indicated in the label layout diagram below this box. As you scroll through this number box, that label will be displayed in the center display label drawing. If that label hasn't been fill in yet, the display will be blank. "2. Fill in or modify a label" (top, center column): Type in the desired text in this display. You can also "copy" and "paste" disk information displayed in the righthand column (see #s 3,4). You must select the "SAVE THIS LABEL" button afterwards to preserve the label contents after filling it in. "3. Click here for current disk info" (top, righthand column): (Optional) Select this button, and information (file names, date and time created or last modified) will be displayed in the box just below this button. If you switch disks, you must click here again to get an updated list. As you scroll through the list, the highlighted entry will also be displayed in the box just above #4, below. "4. Add disk info to label" (center down, righthand label): (Optional) The disk info shown in the box just above this text can be added, in part or whole, to the label by using a "copy" and "paste" method. Highlight desired text, press the 'control' and 'insert' keys. Go to the desired place in the label display and press the 'Shift' and 'insert' keys. "5. Copy a label" (bottom, righthand column): (Optional) A label already created and saved can be copied to 1 or more other labels. If a label copied to had text already, that text will be destroyed, and the contents of the copied label will replace it. To execute the copy, highlight the label number in the "FROM" box, then highlight the number or numbers of desired labels in the "TO" box, then select the "OKAY, COPY LABELS" button. Other buttons: "Save this label" -- preserves the contents of the current label (the one being displayed) "Erase this label" -- erases the contents of the current label "Print Labels" -- prints the labels created. "Quit" -- exit this window, and return to the main window. Printing Notes: The label sheet must be fed manually into your printer. Place the label sheet into the manual feed in the orientation shown in the window 2 display, lefthand column, with the top of the picture representing the front of the label sheet. Close the adjustible guides around the label sheet snugly, so the sheet will be centered perfectly as it feeds into the printer. If you have any doubts, use a scrap of paper cut to label sheet size to test the printing first. For some label brands, the entire sheet is too large to print all at once. In these cases, split the label sheet into the maximum and minimum sizes. These sizes are indicated on the screen in the lefthand column. QUESTIONS or HELP?
