  Half-Betazoid, Deanna Troi cannot read minds as full Betazoids can.
  Instead she has the ability to feel emotions.  She can detect deceit
  as much as she can detect anger, love, etc.  No human emotion is
  hidden from her interpretation.

  Her chief task aboard the Enterprise is to allay the fears and worries
  that Starfleet officers display towards the unknown.  A profound
  lover of her job, Troi is most content when around people.

  Troi is a valuable member of the bridge crew.  She also is a very
  important person to have at negotiations.  Her Betazoid abilities
  can become formidable when used properly.
