Example of How to make a Template File for ENVELOGO With OS/2 2.1, everything you need to make an ENVELOGO template file, complete with graphics for a logo, is included in the basic package. This example is for a Laser printer with a center-feed envelope path. If your Laser printer needs the envelope to be fed from the side, try changing the Top Margin setting from 2.5 inches to .5 inch, or whatever is required. 1. The Printer Settings ====================== Start a "WIN-OS/2 Full Screen" session. From the "WIN-OS/2 Main" group, activate (double-click) "Control Panel". Activate "Printers". Click on "Connect...", and select "FILE:", then click "OK". Now click on "Setup...". In the Orientation group, select "Landscape". In the Paper Source list, select "Manual Feed". Click on "OK". Click on "Close". 2. Making a logo with Paint Brush ================================= From the "WIN-OS/2 Accessories" group, start the "Paint Brush" program. From the "Options" menu, select "Image Attributes". Set the image size to 3 inches wide, and 1 inch high. Click on "OK". Now, in the drawing area, scribble something, or draw a rectangle with rounded corners, or whatever. When finished, use the "Scissor" tool to select all of your artwork; from the "Edit" menu select "Copy" to copy into the clipboard. You can quit "Paint Brush" now; from the "File" menu, select "Exit". Unless you created a masterpiece, there is no need to save your artwork. 3. Making the actual template with "Write" ========================================== (remember, you still should have your great artwork in the clipboard.) From the "WIN-OS/2 Accessories" group, start the "Write" program. From the "File" menu, select "Print Setup...". Set Orientation to "Landscape". Set Source to "Manual Feed". Click "OK". From the "Document" menu, select "Page Layout...". Set the top margin to 2.5 inches. Set left and right margins to 1.75 inches. Click "OK". Now, in your document, Paste your artwork into the top left corner. Right under your artwork, type your name. Now, go down a few lines (say 4 lines) and type a line which consists of simply 3 lower case a's. It should look like this: aaa Repeat for a total of 6 lines. It will look like this: aaa aaa aaa aaa aaa aaa Finish with at least one empty (ie. blank line). Now, select the 6 lines of aaa. From the "Paragraph" menu, select "Indents..." Set the left indent to 4 inches. Click on "OK". From the "Character" menu, select "Font..." IMPORTANT: Make sure that you select a font which is resident in the printer. Courier is a good choice. Make sure that it is NOT a TrueType font, and make sure the character will not be made into a graphic character by ATM. If in doubt, use the ATM control panel to turn ATM off temporarily. (If you do this, you must restart WIN-OS/2 for the change to take effect.) In any case, the six lines of aaa must be stored in your template file as ASCII characters, NOT as graphic representations. The final step is, from the "File" menu, select Print. When prompted, specify a file name and path of your choice, using a file extension of .BIN. (eg. \MYDIR\TEST.BIN) Run the ENVELOGO program and add your template file as an envelope type.
