FNFILER - FeatherNet BBS Upload DIRxx File Manager Version 3.97 13 OCT 91 Several recent enhancements have been made to FNFILER. All have been long overdue and I do anticipate much more will be done to FNFILER to enhance its capabilities and usefulness. Here are the current capabilities of FNFILER followed by pertinent information you *MUST* read and understand. o Operates on all Directory Control Files (DCF's) one at a time. FNFILER maintains an internal count of those DCF's already processed. Once a DCF is processed and all files/descriptions are moved as directed FNFILER will proceed to the DCF selection menu unless all DCF's are already processed. o You may select a file/description to be Skipped or (D)eleted. A file which is SKIPPED will remain in the UPLOAD FILE directory and the description remains with the upload DIRxx file. You will be prompted to kill or not kill any files selected to be deleted when the files and descriptions are being moved. If a file is deleted both the file itself is deleted and the description is discarded. o You may (V)iew archives in the zip, lzh, arj, and arc format and also you may read text files with the archives. o You may (E)dit a file description with your favourite text editor. Once edited the selected upload DIRxx file is reloaded into memory with the updated changes being made. Note that it is STRONGLY recommended you DO NOT INSERT any files and descriptions into the DIRxx file when editing from within FNFILER. It is "ok fine" to add them to the end of the file to your heart's content, however. If you do INSERT a description, ensure it is placed below any previously selected files. This, too, is ok but NOT recommended as it does provide room for error. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Those are the highlights. Any suggestions for FNFILER's future enhancements are always welcomed. All suggestions will be taken seriously into consideration. I fully intend to eventually evolve FNFILER into an enviable BBS File Manager. Mike Delaney is assisting in the FNFILER and FNETSM projects. He has indeed been the spark for the recent changes. Antonio Alves has provided the latest suggestions which I realized were all too necessary for even a minimallly effective Upload File Manager. Installing and Using FNFILER v3.97 ---------------------------------- To install FNFILER v3.97 just copy the new fnfiler.exe over your old file. Then create a file named 'fnfiler.cfg' in EACH NODE directory. In this file MUST be 2 lines. The first line will contain either a "0" or a "1" (no Quotes). A "0" means you DO NOT want to swap FNFILER to EMS/XMS/DISK during a shell to the editor while a "1" signifies you DO want to swap FNFILER to EMS/XMS/DISK during a shell to the editor. The second line will contain the full path and name of your favourite TEXT editor. It is STRONGLY suggested you use a text editor which accepts a command line of the file to edit as FNFILER passes the name of the selected upload DIRxx file to this editor. An example FNFILER.CFG file is: 1 C:\QED\Q.EXE Note that there are NO spaces to be to the left of either line in your actual FNFILER.CFG file(s). Ron Pierce FeatherNet Support
