*****  Getting 16,800 baud connects past Front Door  *****

    This little package is an accumilation of suggestions and ideas that
I have read and "played" with over the years until I've found the simplest
and fastest way to get from point A (Front Door) to point B (PCB).  I have
written this particular text package to help those of you who are running
a 16.8k Dual Standard modem and Front Door.  You'll notice that if/when
someone calls in at 16.8, they don't get passed to the BBS.  That's
because Front Door 2.02 (and 2.10 commercial) doesn't recognize a 16.8
connect message from the modem.  BUT, there IS a way to "fake" Front door
into passing a 16.8 caller to the BBS.



    OK, the first thing that is going to change is in FDSETUP.

1.  Go to the MODEM heading. Choose MESSAGES and look where it says:
    "CONNECT 19200"   change it to   "CONNECT 16800" (on the 19200 line).

2.  NOW, go over to the MAILER heading. Choose ERRORLEVELS.  Here is a
    helpful hint for ANYONE running Front Door and PCB.

    - MAKE ALL OF THE CONNECT BAUD RATES THE SAME ERRORLEVEL NUMBER! -

    The reason for this is that PCB will pick up the connect speed that
    is passed to it from Front Door.  You don't need all those extra
    errorlevels.  This will GREATLY reduce the size of your EXEBBS.BAT
    file.
       (I chose 255 for all of the connect errorlevels as my example)

3.  That's all of the changes that are needed for Front Door.  You will
    now exit with an errorlevel of 255 for ANY modem connection.

4.  OK, NOW you have to change your front door batch files to reflect the
    changes you've just made.  All of the errorlevels for the different
    baud rate connections can all go away!  All you need to do is have
    the level 255 and tell it to go to a section for the BBS.

****  SPECIAL NOTE:  Ever wonder how you can get Front Door to recognize
      a FAX connection?  Use the 38400 connect line and change it to
      whatever your modem responds with when it connects to a FAX!  Make
      sure that under the errorlevels that you give it a different number
      than the BBS level (ie: 300-19200=255, 38400=254) so that it will go
      to a FAX program instead of the BBS!


    All that is left to do is editing the batch files to accomodate the
new errorlevels that you've changed.  NOTICE in EXEBBS.BAT how I tell the
difference between the 19200 connect that FD passes and the 16800 that
PCB gets!  If you don't do this.....well, just do it <g>.  I've enclosed
some very condensed versions of the three important batch files.  You
may find a better way to do things, or you may find that I'm doing it
faster.  Feel free to use it in any way you see fit.  All I'm attempting
to do is help someone get through a "fairly simple" problem.
