12-27-91 R E L E A S E 2 . 0 Well, this is it... changed the color of the box from blue to light cyan due to a few suggestions that it was too dark to see clearly on black. But that is the only thing that was reported over the last two weeks so I guess it is time to let this out non-beta... finally. Thanks to all those who have tested and helped along the way! I really appreciate the patience with the multinode hang problem since I couldn't test it locally. Future Plans ------------ New PCB color codes for bulletins Read Name & City/ST from the user file instead of the caller log Node number for multinode systems Kickin' around the idea of baud rates in the bulletin Setup Program or autoconfig type thing What ever else you guys ask for... 12-22-91 Final Beta prior to the 2.0 release of ProCalls. Added however a new registration routine that will keep track of the numbers in an ASCII text file automatically when I generate them. Sorry, but this will mean that there will be new numbers for those of you who are registered. Give me a call voice at 406-257-5432 and if you are registered I'll give you the new number over the phone. 12-18-91 Programmed the code to SKIP names found in the configuration file. The names must be spelled EXACTLY the way they appear in the bulletin. It is CASE SENSITIVE. Voice 406-257-5416 BBS Mail 406-257-2983 Sparky's Corner (Till PC-Mania! back up) 12-14-91 OK... over 1 week and not one complaint other than it really takes along time for it to print all that crap on the screen. I really appreciate the reports by the registered users! Particularly when you have to call me voice. I am taking mail on Sparky's Corner BBS here in Kalispell 406-257-2983. I will post the latest code there also. i changed the screen writes while running to be faster... let me know what you think. I am now working on the name thing. Till next time ZzZzZzz! 12-05-91 Well... the last fix didn't do the trick... but I have now tried a few new commands in Sam Smith's ProKit which seems to have solved the problem. The code is now running under a Desqview 2 node system and seems stable. Please let me know if otherwise. I have included a bunch of screen writes to help me debug this hanging problem. I plan to remove most of it for the next release if this takes care of the problem. I will be working on the removal of names that you do not want to show in the bulletin as was in an earlier release. Again... if you need help with the program give me a call voice 406-257-5416. PS- PC-Mania! is temporarily down... Voice is the only contact. 10-05-91 Ok... Thanks Mark Onstad of ONS-80 BBS for finding a bug Hal & I had found earlier. I didn't even remember the problem when you reported but when I started looking into it I realized I had fixed this before. There was a bug that if there was a caller on one line while the other node recycled it would hang that node. ProCalls was trying to read the caller log which was open already and caused a runtime error. Now the program "should" skip that caller log and move on to the next one. I can't test this though as I still don't have a memory card for the 2 meg of memory I have. Soon as I get a board I will multitask and test myself. (Hint Hint) if anyone wants to make a donation by registering this software... it would only take 7 of you. 09-20-91 WELL... History? What history... Due to a HD crash I lost a major part of Procalls source code. The last version that was successfully restored was quite early. So I started over from scratch using the old code as a base. I did however correct a few little things in the new code that speed up the program and made it smoother. Here is the history from memory.... About November of 90 I and Hal Krause were chatting about how nice a local WildCat BBS logon sequence was and wished we had one for PCBoard. We both downloaded all that we saw. Only one stood out in our mind over the rest. That was from some Dana Cheeks or something... Please correct if you know who I mean and let me know here on the board so I can change it here. But it still didn't give us what we wanted. So with some Ideas from Hal I set out and wrote one. Now I can't remember how long it took but seems I had an alpha code running before Jan 30, 1991 and went beta around then. This was a very simple non-color version that listed the Names of the callers and the citys... it listed them for every call... This is not what we wanted... so there was not a release. Partially because I had some file sharing problems and a few bugs reading the caller log. Ya know... it always ran fine on my board! But finally I got it stable enough to start adding features. We wanted a color that changed for each caller. And a total calls at the bottem... we wanted a single line for ewach caller that added the minutes and the calls on one line. These came and worked out great... We beta tested and had a first release... The PCLS001.Zip or what ever it was is pretty stable and seems OK... I got a few registrations THANKS GUYS! I was working on new beta code that would leave out a specific caller which name was in the config file. I also was toying around with the date sensitivity. The names got to working smooth but the date worked fine except for the first few days of the month. and then it happened..... Crash!!! Well -- I'm Back.. and much smoother and tighter code... All the before features are there except the No Print Name feature. The date thing works great! This code seems bug free and I feel confident that it will be fine. BUT.... THIS IS BETA CODE... if there is a bug please let me know and I'll work it out... But FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE MAKE A BACKUP! just to be carefull. NOTE: Procalls code READs the caller log only... it writes to the names configured in the CNF file. But if the file names in the config file are PCB files then you could have trouble... Just to be safe make backups. Ok on with the show This program Idea was concocted by Rob hufstetler & Hal Krause. Hal is the SysOp of Sparky's Corner BBS in Kalispell MT. 406-756-3436 All coding was done by Rob Hufstetler in Turbo Pascal 5.5 ProCalls is being properly copywrited through Alpine Diversified Inc. as I don't know a whole lot about this legal stuff. BTW... the UNREGISTERED program is fully functional so far so there is only two advantages in registering... 1. The good feeling of a clear concience 2. It won't say UNREGISTERED to your users any more. Other than that it is a full funtioning program. I have made it use a personal code for registration so that the same code can be given to others and they only need the code from me to get it registered. makes it easier on me and you. If you use this program please send me the registered version of some software you have written.... or send $15.00 to PC-Mania! 611 Granite View Drive Kalispell MT 59901 BBS Phone 406-257-5432 Voice 406-257-5416 Feel free to call, I'm home after 6pm usually and on weekends.
